How do you feel about the reps who look anxiously at an opened emails report?

context: some folks seem to spend a bit of time checking reports for mass emails to see who did and didn't open their emails.

my take: I really don't care unless they responded or took action (like attended a webinar I invited them to). so what if they opened my email but did nothing else? half of the time those opens are quick deletes anyways.

its important to know who gives a shit about your email and who could care less, do you have the wrong email, do they check your email, have they opened it 7 times? If you start your day calling the people who have opened your email several times chances are they are a warmer lead than someone who hasn't

I wouldn't let that run my day though. It's like obsessively checking your feed to see how many "likes" you have. At some point, you HAVE to go do something else.

i would generally agree with this. email open rate as a metric is just a signal. it CAN be a signal that your subject line is solid and its getting ppl to open the email.

BUT THATS IT. it doesnt mean they read the email, it doesnt mean they want to talk to you, or anything. it just means that you had a good subject line. (at most)

I feel like there could be a time and place for looking at that metric but I feel that anyone that looks anxiously at that report probably also likes watching paint dry and water boil.

We use hubspot so whenever I am looking at a prospect's page as I'm about to call or email them I can see if they opened my email, that will usually change the way I word my next email or approach the conversation if they answer.

I do not, however, spend any time looking at overall metrics of opens. I get a decent idea of how well received any specific email was through open notifications and replies.

It shows what works for subject lines to get intro, you can do A/B testing to improve
