Always send clear next steps in a follow up email after a meeting.

1 - Good cadence in follow ups.
2 - Never just check in, always bring some sort of relevant new information in your follow up.
3 - Ask for the signature when on the phone, 'Are you able to sign today? Can you get this back to me?'ย

I like the tactic of asking for signature on the phone. Do you ever offer to sweeten the deal if they can make that happen?

Um, not really. Then they got you by the balls. 'Oh two months free? Can you throw in free implementation and 10% off our first months ad spend? If so I'll sign it right now!"

Sometimes they just need some space. Some other times, this points out at the fact that maybe they are not the DM and they need to take this to someone else for approval. That could be a gap in qualification.ย

That's a good point. I do know that for one he had to get board approval, so might be stuck in limbo. But I thought we had good enough rapport that he would have been able to tell me that

I think we can all relate to this issue but unfortunately there is no real way to avoid or fix it

Are you covering the proposals over the phone and outlining next steps/follow up plan?ย

I have not been, our deal sizes are relatively smaller and sales cycles tend to also be shorter. When we agree on price I usually send over a quote for signature, no formal proposal unless it's a larger enterprise customer

How much negotiation typically happens on your deals? Are there generally several back and forth or is it usually straight quote and signature?

Depends the size of the deal, but there generally a bit of back and forth

Proposal review meeting being scheduled a week after the proposal is sent. Gives them time to review with internal stakeholders and doesnโ€™t mean you have to chase em down for feedback.ย

Doesn't happen often since I establish how long the evaluation process will take and then set a meeting in the calendar before we get off the call to make them accountable. If they blow off that meeting, I remind them of all the pain points that won't be solved if they continue to delay. Will also tighten the screws and start the theatrics around how commercials were approved with the expectation of sign-off happening by a certain date.
