How do you know when a lead is worked "enough"

My team will give up after 2-5 touches. I once sent a guy 32 custom emails and he got in the pipe. Curious what your take on this is?

Sounds like 32 is a good number. :)

In all seriousness, they should all be getting continual outreach unless it's not a good fit for your solution.

But usually until they at least reject me a couple times and then my SDR too

Right, my original answer was "when they sign the contract". :)

Some of my biggest deals are people who said no for months and then caved and took a meeting.

Depends, are they opening the emails or doing any sign of life?

2-5 touches is very little, I would say minimum 13 for someone you consider a potential buyer

This seems wild to me, in my industry I'd end up on a watchlist if I reached out more than 3 times to someone saying "no".

Once I've been told no, I peel off and let any auto-send/marketing stuff take over.

But if I am being ignored or ghosted, I'm going to stay on it.

Agreed, I will stay on a ghost but a no usually just accepted.

I have 10-15 touches. 5 is too less and never worked effectively for me.

Also curious, are we talking about these number of touches in aggregate or one channel only (example: email)?

I guess I meant aggregate. but focused sales touches. Not marketing nurture to keep them warm.

5-7 touches seem to be the magic number for me. There is so much negativity in the world, people are practically programmed to say no. I think it also depends on your industry and the buying cycle of the end customer. The more things tighten up with inflation and other pressures, it's only a matter of time before budgets start to get frozen, pushed or plucked for other projects - both public sector and commercial/enterprise.

I have been in the game for quite a while and it's been a spell since the 2008 crisis. A recession doesn't mean no business is being done - contraction doesn't happen equally across all segments. So the adage of what made you successful is not sufficient to keep you there is on the money when things tighten up.

If you join a SaaS company and thrive at the beginning due to inbound leads and good SDR and then sales start going down due to a change of SDR and less inbounds, does that mean youโ€™re not a competent sales person or does it mean itโ€™s time to move on to another company?
