I'm both the boss and manage my boss (the CEO) so I hope to give you an interesting perspective here. Managing expectations (especially when a miss is imminent) I've found is almost all about timing. If you think you are going to miss, the sooner you set that expectation to your leader the smoother the conversation (and month/quarter/year) is going to go. Nothing worse as a leader then expecting to hit, and then having the rug pulled out from underneath you in the last 3 days of the target term. Also, I like to tell my team "identifying problems is easy, bringing solutions to the problem is what creates success" - so when you present to your boss the "miss" make sure to have a plan in place for how its not going to happen next month/quarter/year - including what you are going to do differently. Good luck!

yesssss. Bring a solution to the problem- have a game plan. The more comfortable you are talking about your numbers, the better. Really great advice here!
