How do you motivate yourself?

Simple question: How do everyone here motivate themselves?

Specially after lot of changes in the organisation, structuring/re-structuring and specially after you've just found out you're being paid way below market standards, and peanuts as compared to your colleagues with the same designation.

How do you folks push yourself?

Sometimes you just gotta keep on keeping on while you look for employment elsewhere.

I can tell you, my career (and mental health) changed dramatically when I stopped giving a F and comparing myself to my peers and the industry.  1) Most of the time, your peers are just plain lying, in an effort to boost their own egos, or they are simply out performing you and your colleagues, both aren't anything to get in a funk about.  2) What does "market standards" even mean? There is no published minimum wage for sellers, and beyond that every industry's pay scales are drastically different.   I motivate myself my trying everyday to learn new things, to push myself (and my team) to be better than they were the day before - and do those things while leaving the ego at the door.

Love the answer @LordBusiness
"I motivate myself my trying everyday to learn new things, to push myself (and my team) to be better than they were the day before - and do those things while leaving the ego at the door.  " ---> I try to do this as well. But how do you deal with the question of "How is this moving any needle? What good is it going to give me?"

And secondly, the wages things only come after discussing it with my peers and seeing actual proofs of it.

Sales is a mentally excruciating job, and every one of us is different.  I do almost everything in my day to day following the following.  "Work Hard, Be Kind....and the rest will generally take care of itself".  beyond that, don't ride the rollercoaster of ups and downs.

That’s a shit situation. Hang in there and dust off the resume.

Yeah I was there not long ago.

Its a really shitty place to be especially with work from home.

It’s time for a new opportunity...now amount of motivation is going to be sustainable

Before? Making money to burn on dumb shit and good excuses to travel.

Now? My kid is my motivation. She is too damn smart to have a deadbeat dad.

One of the biggest things I've found in my career is that "motivation" is not sustainable. The feeling after leaving a conference or company sales meeting, everyone is jacked up, feeling great about the year ahead. That feeling eventually goes away, and when that happens you need discipline.

Discipline is what gets you out of bed and going every day. Discipline is what allows you to perform at a high level and achieve whatever goals you have set for yourself, whether that be in work or in life.

Motivation is fleeting. Find something that you enjoy doing and instill discipline in yourself to see your goals through.

I run all the time as it is my favorite form of exercise (walks work great too). On top of this, I try and line up all my calls in a cadence and rip through them starting at the top of the hour. In between I either prospect or scroll the internet visiting sites I like and if I get an ad or see an interesting company I might want to sell to I check them out on ZoomInfo. This helps me not dread making calls and keeps me in a good mood when I do make my calls. Finally, as the phone rings, I think to myself out with the fear in with courage as I breathe and I also remind myself if a prospect is rude it is everything do with them and nothing to do with myself so I don't place any value on my own self-worth based on a prospect yelling at me. Everyone is different, but I've found this helps so much in my day to day.
Cheers :)

@Chep - This is some brilliant advice. Kudos to you for managing how you do.Can I ask for an opinion from you. "How do you manage the very highs and very lows of the sales job?" . Just thought I'd ask since you brought in the point of mood as well. Any thoughts?

Sorry just seeing this now. I try and detach myself from the outcome of any "sales". It's a fine line because if you detach too much you won't get any deals so I still celebrate a little when I schedule a meeting, but then I'm right back to it. This also helps me post work so I'm not thinking about my calls all night. Once I learned to detach from the outcome I started doing a lot better and I think it's because I was a lot happier. Happy people are successful and not the other way around!

That's such a wonderful thought. Thanks for sharing this!

I agree. Some of my best work has happened when I don't think about the result.
