How do you note you played college athletics on your resume without being a douche?

I played college football, which I know most employers love, but I've never really underscored it in my resume. just a bullet point under my education that is easily missed. anyone of my ex athletes out there have good advice on how to emphasize athletic experience?

I don't think that's something you want to downplay. I'd highlight that shit if I were you. It's a solid talking point and it makes you stand out. Just embrace being a douche.

Yeah everyone knows sports = good at sales. My old VP said so himself.

My resume says this:

ACTIVITIES AND ASSOCIATIONS

• Member of the Women Builders Council, Professional Women in Construction, IBANY, Association of Professional Insurance Women

• Olympic level equestrian - Represented both Canada and the United States at top international level competitions

This is after experience and before education

Have you watched any of the dressage and are you as annoyed as the First Lady with the terrible commentating? (She’s a professional equestrian in a discipline other than dressage and was very annoyed)

I have! Some friends got medals and I’m so excited for them 🥰

I only watched the nbc sports online feed and I didn’t think it was bad 🤷‍♀️

Welcome! It used to be longer but I condensed it because no one cares except that you were good. If they’re into it, they will ask more questions.

You should have it prominent on your resume and on LinkedIn, so when they look at your profile it’s easy to see you played at XYZ. It’s a huge selling point for hiring managers. Tons of teams build around high level athletes.

Coming from someone who played D1 lacrosse just embrace it. Football is way better cause it’s obviously more popular. Great to prove you have great time management as well work ethic. Cheers

Nah! Lacrosse is awesome. And who cares if it's ping pong, you competed at a collegiate level. Actually, ping pong in tech may actually be better than Football...

I think you are over thinking it - but I also think you are hilarious in how your phrased this question.  Ping me a message, I'll interview ya just based on being funny.

I might be, but have to ask to make sure I get the right feedback! Would love to connect, I don't think they have a PM function on here.

Tbh I wouldn’t include that on a resume unless it had something to do  with the job you are applying to. It’s not really relevant. Resumes should be one page and I’m guessing if you are including stuff like that, yours is longer?

This is terrible advice. What do collegiate-level athletics have to do with sales? Maybe discipline, determination, coachability, grit, and the ability to thrive in both athletics and education at the same time? You should mention it, even if it was 25 years ago as it was in my case. And I also have all those years plus that on my one-page resume.

No, keeping it one page. But I see your point

I highlight my rugby team days, jiu jitsu competitions. Employers love the athlete trope, especially in sales. As much as I don't like the stereotype, there is some truth to it.

I’ve heard from several sales leaders that they openly discriminate against people who don’t play sports. Seems like everyone on my sales team played something at a decent level.

You should probably open by disclosing that you’re only in sales because you didn’t get drafted in college. Hindsight is 2020 my friend
