If you're not prospecting then you should get another career started. Marketing might be a good choice or support.

My first thought as well. Who let marketing in?

Just wait for marketing to give me more leads. Couldn't survive without marketing. They're the most important part of the sales process. I'm basically just an order taker. Every day I'm thankful for the constant stream of quality leads that aren't at all terrible, not the right point of contact or a complete waste of time. Those office admin webinar attendees are the lifeblood of my pipeline.

First I prospect then I realize it will take 6 months to close an outbound and then I get back to square 1 followed by my manager asking where my pipeline is...

Prospect all day. If you are not prospecting, you are just leaving money on the table. I never ever ever rely 100% on my SDRs or marketing to drum up leads for me.

WR and other social media seem right. But can´t you prospect yourself as well?

Very few reps consistently prospect and source their own deals. Learn this skill, and you'll always have a job (and probably a well-paying job).

Really? I have always been the one prospecting and adding new leads, is...is it not meant to be this way?!

Yeah I’ve made 100% of my pipeline. No fancy tools to research, either. I get the DOB and Google.

Out of interest, if looking for a different company, how would you explain that you were the one bringing in customers and meetings as marketing barely brings in leads...without sounding like a dick?

I find new business myself.

At the end of the day you and only you are responsible for hitting quota. You are in control of your money. Don't wait around.

While I wish I had inbounds, sales pros do their own prospecting.

Just noticed you're an IB rep. I would check with your leadership to see if they can re-negotiate your monthly quota. Its not your fault that theres not enough quality leads.

But if you want to get promoted to AE, then start to OB on your free time on a closed lost list or something. Create a sequence to re engage them.

Cold prospecting doesn’t work the same for every industry and company size, clearly we should always be prospecting but if you’re working for a smaller less known brand reps aren’t going to self-generate enough pipe to make a true difference.

Spend time with my family?  I love working from home.  If there's a legit outbound path to success absolutely turn over all stones.  But i've sold products with 0 outbound potential.  In that case, enjoy your work/life balance.

You are the CEO of your own book of business!

Start out bounding. Reach out to previous closed deals and ask for referrals.

Prospecting is a good answer in theory, but everyone has some down time throughout the day.... When I do I go chat with ppl from support, onboarding, and marketing.

Gotta have that rapport - and having a cold beverage or 3 mid-day usually helps me close deals.

If sales people didn’t have quotas, and were paid just a flat rate of whatever they sold, do you think think that A)Salespeople would work just as hard? B) Create a better culture within the Sales Org? C) Create better relationships with their buyers?

If you join a SaaS company and thrive at the beginning due to inbound leads and good SDR and then sales start going down due to a change of SDR and less inbounds, does that mean you’re not a competent sales person or does it mean it’s time to move on to another company?
