How do you stay active at a sales desk job?

My previous sales experiences had me up and moving all day - often 12+ hour work days. Now I'm in the office, in a cubicle, making Zoom calls and writing email templates.

How do you guys stay active and healthy after transitioning to a job sitting at a desk all day?

Don't sit at the desk all day.

Seriously.  Take frequent breaks to at least get up and stretch.  Consider a standing desk if that floats your boat.   Make sure you schedule exercise time - if your company has a gym, take advantage of it.   You're not going to replace 12 hours of walking/moving, but you won't do yourself any favors by sitting for 8+, so my suggestion is to find a routine that works for you so it doesn't fall by the wayside.

Second this!
• I love my uplift desk, since it allows me to sit and stand. Lots of companies are giving home office stipends, and I think a convertible desk is the best bang for your buck.
• I take frequent breaks throughout the day to walk around. It's about 45 minutes round trip to walk to the grocery store, so I'll do that a few times a week. In the summer/fall I might do 30 min of light yard work.

These are helpful! I've been adding walking breaks to my lunch (although it's getting cold in the northeast).

Standing desks have been nixed in the office unless you're on leadership.

I could stand to join the gym though. Now that I'm back to 40 hours a week it feels like I have so much free time in the evening.

They can tell you what kind of desk to use?

We're all in office cubicles and I guess they won't fit? Or they just don't want to pay for them.

Lame... Although you could always invest in something like this:  https://nymag.com/strategist/article/best-standing-desk-converters.html

Thanks for this! I have double monitors so it's harder to find converters for those.

I pace like a crazy person every time I'm on the phone so I really only sit down when I'm doing admin but I love getting out for a walk over lunch - even 15 minutes can make a big difference.

Lunchtime walks in the depths of Canadian winter are not floating my boat right now.

The Philly area has been fine for walks all Q4. First day of Q1 and BOOM 6 inches of snow.

But it's still 36 F outside. Not like when I lived close to Canada (north Minnesota and North Dakota). As kids we could still go out for recess as long as it wasn't colder than -20 F.

I get up every 25 minutes (pomodoro, baby!), and move. Walks to start the day, at lunch, and at the end of the day with the dog. Oh, and a gym sesh every morning before work.

I have a standing desk and make sure im on my feet 70% of the day. I also will also try to turn zoom calls into phone calls if I can and take those while walking around, gets you moving and can help break up the monotony of the day.

Break away and hit a few 20 min workouts in between calls

I would love to but I'm physically at the office. We get the hour lunch break and you better be getting stuff done the rest of the day.

In the replies, I mentioned we can't have them. But I could maybe get a standing desk converter (on my own dime).

It is worth it, think of it as an investment to help you back and legs long term. I did it once and did wonders, especially if you're taller than average

It's been long since I have worked from office but I would be up standing for 5 mins in every 30 mins. If you can't have standing desk, this is the best option if you don't want your back getting cramped...

That seems like a reasonable balance of sitting/standing.

As for my back, I tried to touch my toes before a run yesterday and it killed my lower back. Guess slouching all day isn't great for it.

Im a phone walker, i will pace around non stop while on the phone, if you arent doing that already give it a shot.  Also lunchtime walks as suggested by others help, if nothing else they seriously clear the mind.  Nothing beats fresh air.

I like that idea. Right now we have the headsets connected via USB to the CPU. But it wouldn't be hard to find a wireless one.

Do you more phone selling or Zoom? I feel like I have to have still, strong posture when I sit on a Zoom call for a half an hour.

My adhd has me sucked into something stupid like a game on my phone, then I realize I've spent 30 minutes on it, then I switch my attention to my tasks for 5 minutes, then back to something else stupid. But all from my desk!
