How far away are we from the 4 day work week?

I believe the pandemic has shed a light on productivity and that employees choose to work longer when working from home because they can spread their day out, instead of commuting. This has its downside; diminishing returns and all that ...

A post I shared earlier is that my employer gives us every 2nd Friday of the month off. This is one of the biggest perks I can think of. Holiday allowance, 12 fridays off and 8 public holidays.

That being said, how long until top talent in the industries start negotiating this into their contracts? How long until this trickles down to everyone?

Boris Johnson said earlier this week that he thinks cities will be revived by the arts and not just business, imagine having kids at school & you can make a matinee in town without taking PTO?

Just an example of the endless possibilities. Bit of a ramble on this one, but I don't think its far off. Spain is trialling it, PWC is trialling it over the summer, I believe Unilever too.

I feel like if you're a top talent it doesn't matter how many days you work.ย  When I was hired my VP of sales said, "I don't care if it takes you 20hrs a week or 60hrs a week.ย  As long as you perform like you say you can and hit your number, we're all good"

Thatโ€™s exactly what a decent boss would say. Hate em folks who put people who stay late or work overtime to finish their jobs on a fricking pedestal

I'm hopeful the 4 day work week will come sooner rather than later. People are more productive when they're happy and the companies who realize this will succeed

Very true! I was working less/ producing more a couple months ago and then my manager gave me a hard time about being away from my comp. Now I am by my comp more/ produce less.ย

I think it may become a thing in certain industries, but a lot of sales people will work the extra day to get a head or to simply keep their job.ย

I love the 4 day work week. informally, I do 4-day weeks more often now as I hardly am working Fridays. I usually block my calendar for Fridays and prospect and follow up for a couple hours at the most.ย

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
EOQ is absolutely going to fuck all of us then. No legal, no operations, no exec sign-off on Fridays in the last few weeks of the quarter? That probably wouldn't go great.ย

As long as you hit your number, the number of days worked shouldn't matter. If you can work 1 day a week and close business then good for you.

Our CEO kept excitedly dangling the 4 day work week carrot in summer 2021, and in every monthly company update someone anonymously asks about the status. We have been told to stop asking b/c they've already answered the question with "we're considering it."ย

Unlimited PTO as long as Iโ€™m consistently hitting quota. Itโ€™s very vague and not as objective as Iโ€™d like atm, but I can work with that for now
