But real talk, depends on your company and industry. Could be anywhere for a few months to a few years.

2-3 years or if you're a savage 6-18 months. If you're like half the people on here, then @funcouponsย suggestion of 84 years is generous.ย

Depends on the individual, the vertical they got their start in, the company or companies that they were an SDR at. But honestly if you wait until you're "ready" you'll never do it. Most of this shit is learned through experience. IMO

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
It depends on what you're selling and the org. I got what I needed after less than 9 months and was able to hit the ground running as an AE. My team also got a ton of training when we started though.

As long as it takes for you to build your skillset, understand the sales motion of your org, and feel confident enough to close business. Could be 3 months, could be 2 years. There is no true average.

Why all this SDR porn? I'm sure there are still SMB type roles available out there (full sales cycle) as a first job.

I'd take that over being an SDR

I think it's more related to being in an SMB role. everybody wants to be enterprise, and most enterprise orgs don't have full cycle AEs.

I asked this question because I'm an SDR right now and just got promoted to an AE. I was curious what other people thought about the amount of time for the transition and how it compared to my experience.ย

I enjoyed the SDR role given our product is complex, it gave me time to learn and understand best practices before jumping in as an AE - but everyone is different!

I was only an SDR for 10 months at a startup before landing an AE role at a large company. I don't think it matters at all tbh. There is some crossover but they are different skill sets. I've done better as an AE than I did as an SDR.ย

Depends on the industry but I see the best BDRs get molded into AEs within 18-24 months

Too long is a red flag though (for both the rep and company)
