How many accounts are you responsible for?

I work in the UK chemical industry, we have been recently purchased by a large American company. Each salesperson I have talked to at the American company seems to have a lot fewer accounts than us, by a factor of 10.

For example, my colleague has 160 accounts, his American counterpart has 12

100~ named.

Expected to prospect on top.

I can of course drop accounts that are poor fits, subsids, outside my rev band etc etc. and replace with fresh.

Just wondering. Could it be that your American colleague are having some larger accounts that they are responsible for? – larger accounts can take more time to manage?

I don't have a clue about the chemical industry, so enlight me.

Similar level, both top accounts are grade A (the highest tier)

So the highest value accounts will all be in the mills, then he has a lot fo B grade and C grade, the tens and hundreds

I don’t have a volume, but if I can’t touch them all in a month that’s the cap. At that point I push for an employee :)

Are all these actively purchasing accounts?

Technically they are all potential clients that can purchase, we actively pursue about 50 at a time with 10 hot targets within that.

I'm getting a new list this morning so I'll update you then.

Currently I have a Top 50 and I still hunt new business.

I’m working like 10-15 leads right now, I manage about 20 clients. Probably have a few hundred cold targets I’m chasing per month.

Depends if you are working across SMB, Mid-market, Enterprise. What's the avg business etc.

I worked with a company where I handled 100+ accounts and worked with a company where I handled less than 20 accounts.

I have around 450 in my territory, but I’d say only 150 of those are good prospects. I don’t do a ton of prospecting myself, but my SDR focuses on a top 50-75 at a time generally.

I guess technically, I have zero accounts. I'm new business only. The second I close, everything is handed off to the AM team.

Are they talking about reducing your account coverage? Or are you more so just curious?

Previously, I had around 500 (put really only around 50 of them were active... the rest were more prospecting targets). End of the day, if quotas are territory/account based, it doesn't really matter if it's 5 accounts or 500 accounts!

If they're the same level accounts, that seems odd.   However, at my previous employer, strategic reps might have as few as 3-5 accounts, then down the line, with 20 or so to the next tier down, based on company size, annual spend and potential growth.  New logo account reps might have 400 in their territory, but a lot of those will be garbage.
