How many rounds of interviews before you landed your ideal job?

Hey party people,

Just curious how long it took some of you to get a position that you saw yourself working at for the duration of your career. Recently started up interviews in software sales again. I'm in no rush but I've found myself in tons of interviews, and nothing seems like a mutually ideal fit.

How long did it take you guys to find that sweet spot? and what aspect attracted you most?

I've heard everything from just one all the way up to 100!

I think I had 4, a call with recruiter, hiring manager, capstone presentation, and then a final call with a director which was more of a formality

Blow it up
4. One initial phone, one in person with the CEO over coffee, one to meet the senior team and a final one with a trusted sales-pro friend of the CEO to actually vet my sales skills.

Ideal is 3 !
Max 4 or 5!

Anything north of 5 is a red flag to join the company.

It wasn’t that many at my current job, because a former colleague of mine recommended me. What was important to me was understanding the structure and clicking with my direct manager (who is awesome) and her manager, who is also great. Personality wise, we were a fit. Maybe that’s what’s missing for you, if everything else seems ok? I’m in a place where my style fits with management expectations, which for me points back to my very positive interviews with both of them.

My current job - 4 rounds, kinda. I got passed around to various leadership people during the process.

I have had up to 5 rounds with screenings, presentations, meeting with various people, etc. Kinda grueling.

5 total on my last go around. 2 one-on-ones with the CEO, an all day gauntlet with several departments which ended with a disco call and a 30/60/90 presentation, and then a one-on-one with the marketing director, and finally a one-on-one with the board and then the offer call. 🎉

I think 3-4 is plenty. Anything more than that is a red flag and waste of my time.
