How often do you pull the sick card?

I canceled my 1 on 1 with my manager today to go surfing due to 'food poisoning.' Obviously I did not have food poisoning but I was dying to go surfing since the conditions were good. (And good surf days have been far and few in between). As a recent college grad, this is the first time I have faked a sickness on the job but I also feel they're important to survive the 9-5 grind for the long haul. And I'm still going to hit my number this month like I always do.

I honestly feel like doing that today was me prioritizing myself and my mental health. I also had a flippin' amazing time surfing too.

Do you sales savages pull the sick card, and if so.. how often?

So long as you're getting your job done and you're not putting your hooky on social media / bragging about it - its a harmless crime.

Usually, I will take my P.T.O and have not had to use a sick day, but should a situation arise where I was dying to do something and I didn't have two weeks time to request off in advance I would pull the sick day card

That's good. My hobbies are weather dependent so if surfs up got to make it happen dog. I like to save PTO for if I'm traveling somewhere

The key is finding a boss who will go surfing with you on days like those. My last one was and it was amazing.

We have PTO/a decent vacation policy so I'd just use one of those days if I wanted the day off to do something fun. That said, I have no issue with the odd playing hooky day. A couple times a year isn't going to affect your performance or numbers and a random day off can do wonders for your mental health and energy levels.

I only have 15 days PTO as an SDR so when my manager who has unlimited pto takes off a month throughout the year, I don't feel bad for doing what I want to outside of work

Most companies don't ask for a reason anymore if you say you need the day off. Even with a valid excuse it looks the same as if you just took a day off for no reason. With that said as long as you don't do it all the time and are hitting your numbers there shouldn't be a problem.
