Annually is normal. More than that means there was a mistake made. Less means they’re not paying attention to how people are paid.

I agree. I worked at a company who had it all wrong and changed quota and commission structure what felt like every other month. It was a start up, and 90% of my team would exceed quota. The structure would change again, and again. It became frustrating to just about everyone on the team.

Yeah, I get an annual comp package that lays out my base, quota, and any accelerators.

No marketing, mayo isn't an MQL
Annually is typically the norm as @chadilac mentioned, though it can change more frequently at early stage startups where they're figuring everything out (frustrating af though)

We have adjusted our comp plan twice this year. Once to reflect fair pay practices (underpaying some reps, overpaying others) and another to implement a fully-baked out plan. We are pre-A, which explains why things shift so much.

In the past, as @chadilac said, annual has been normal. If your INDIVIDUAL plan changes, and you're a top performer, that means they are hemorrhaging money with you and want to put the handcuffs on. If that happens, toss up a red flag faster than the last mine on minesweeper.

Current role, has changed once in 3 years after a board of director change. They double quota and halved commission.

Another company I worked for changed comp plan sporadically, 4 times within the year. Big red flags lol

Agree with chadilac, it’s usually annually. Occasionally some companies will adjust if the go-to-market for a division wasn’t set up properly.
And it’s “structure”. The phrase would be “how often has your commission structure changed?”

Usually every 12 months or so to stay competitive.

Some have been better, but as the company has grown tremendously YOY our commission % have gone backwards but our salaries have increased. So more money made each year but always have the itch for higher commission percentages.

I would say each year it is reevaluated and at this time changes are then made.

In my 5 years at my company, it has substantially changed once. Every year the percentages and spiffs are altered a bit, but only once has the actual structure been changed.

Haha! If changes are regular, what would you like to see differently on the plan? Do you think your recommendations would be welcomed?
