How's the semiconductor shortage impacting your life?

I work in tech. I'm pretty sure we're 90 days out from shipping just about any hardware component. We have some software components, so I've done my best to pivot. But hardware is my bread and butter - and I don't get paid until it ships.

Curious how hard other industries are getting hit?

How hard is the chip shortage hitting you?

I mean I need to buy a newer car but the prices are stupid high. That's personal pain though. I haven't been affected in business. Let me go knock on some wood before it happens though ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜†

I strictly deal in software so not feeling it professionally but there are things I want to buy that are on back order / delayed due to the chip shortage.ย

It would suck to have that cross over into work.ย

Smart to pivot to software.ย

It was a hassle when I was building a new gaming rig, but I was able to wait and shop around enough to find everything I needed at a reasonable price.ย

Our product requires hardware with a subscription service & the hardware uses those microprocessors. Most new customers are okay with waiting a few extra days/weeks to get units in because they already have their old system in place while they wait.

But existing customers are a different story. When customers request additional units it becomes a huge problem navigating that & getting units prioritized to ship to them in a timely manner. It's caused some churn risk, but fortunately nothing too drastic thus far.

Fuck this shortage. My job is to sell units I can't ship & quotas certainly ain't changing!

To the parents out there, how have you balanced your sales career with raising young children, especially during WFH in Covid? Do you feel more productive with WFH or less?
