How screwed is my company?

overview: series A Startup, just received another round of funding, solid product market fit and only a 2 real competitors. really enjoy working here and the product.

when I first started (1 yr ago) thought we had a lofty but attainable quota then the goal posts moved to 25% higher. at no point has anyone came close to the new quota number, and the entire organization is struggling to get to even 50% per quarter. i am one of the top performers and best I've gotten is 65% full quota. we have no VP of sales but a CRO who has never carried a bag basing quotas off of outdated salesforce  data. apparently we are profitable but I can see how this is just completely unsustainable and with the current economic climate is a cause for concern. OTE $220K 50/50 split.

laid off the recruiting team back in June and just wondering what to expect here and don't want to leave but also need to look out for myself.

Really this is just a post to vent to like minded individuals after the rose colored glasses have started to fade after a year.

has anyone ever worked somewhere where nobody is close to quota and how did that go? do I casually put some lines in the water?

definitely cast a few lines. My previous company was similar where no one would hit quota (besides me, humble brag) Had to bounce

I would casually put some lines out. It just sounds like there isn't real structure or a want to realistic input.

I'd start looking as well.

BTW, even large companies make bad quota decisions based on faulty interpretation of data. It sucks. They'd be better off combining what they glean with some feedback from the field.

I’ve gotta say.. OTE doesn’t matter if no one is hitting the target. I’d be putting feelers out for that alone. Imagine spending years, at a place that you don’t plan on retiring from, and not being able to put achieved 100% quota attainment on your resume even once.

Throw those lines out in the water and see what bites. Sounds like this ship may be taking on water and will be sinking.

It's time to start job hunting, you don't need to commit to anything, and you can see how the grass is greener on the other side at companies that are well structured

You should probably be looking. They need revenue and not sure how to get it.

i have totally been there. and YES put some lines in the water. the biggest red flags for me:

1. series A
2. CRO has never carried a bag. this SUCKS and is cause for major concern.

You should always have your resume sharp and know several good recruiters. You can always say no thanks when they call but it is great when they do in situations like this. The CRO needs to be replaced or the company will fail.

Thank you for saying this. Everyone trashes recruiters until they need one, haha.

I see that and laugh at them. They obviously do not know how to form a relationship with anyone, nothing is better than having a strong relationship with a strong recruiter.

Put out the feelers. Connect with old friends. Spiff up the resume. It's not complete doom and gloom yet, but the cracks are showing it sounds like. And its starting to take a long time for companies to put people into roles. My company took 6 weeks to get me started. Great stable company, but things are just taking longer now. Don't end up left waiting.

How do you mean put people into roles? As in hire new people or get ramped up?

apologies for the several days later reply. What I meant by that was the length of time from the offer signed to the start date.
