How soon would you say is "too soon" for a breakup email to a prospect?

Being a current SDR, I am looking for good advice on how to eliminate too many salesy follow-ups to a prospect in an SDR role...

I was thinking 5-6 follow up touches/emails is where I pull the cord on blasting out the "Still interested?" related email to a previously interested prospect.

Candidly, I think the use of "breakup emails" should be limited to only leads that were inbound leads (contact us, demo request, etc.)  Nothing infuriates me more than someone "breaking up" with me when we had no relationship.  If I expressed interest, and am ignoring you the "breakup" is fair -- if I've never engaged with your company there is nothing to "break up".

I never thought of it this way, I'm going to shut up about the break up or the lack of on prospecting cadences. Thanks

100%. It's impossible to "break up" from cold outreach where there was no engagement. Plus you lose credibility if you break up just to enter them in a sequence later.

If you have only had one call then there isn't a relationship to break. I'd holster those breakup emails for post demo or died in contracts ops.

I dont think breakup emails should ever be used on prospecting sequences. What are you breaking up from? They havent responded to any of your emails and have not agreed to talk to you.

Just end the sequence and start a new one next quarter.

Good breakup emails are for good fit ops that have gone cold unexpectedly

Breakup emails should be used sparingly and as others have said, not in the context of prospecting sequences. Instead of “breaking up,” just move them back to a different marketing sequence so you don’t lose touch entirely or risk pissing them off.

On a prospecting sequence, I make it touch 7 or 8.  The elements of it would be some form of...
1. I've been trying to catch you all week.
2.  I think I'm providing relevant info to you, so I have to assume you're buried right now (or... I have to assume one of 3 things, and make a list of 3 assumptions and make one of them comical).
3.  I'll get back in touch next quarter.

There's really not a one-size fits all answer to this.  It highly depends on how much interest the prospect has showed, how much they have engaged, and how long your sales cycle usually is.  I have prospects still ghosting me for almost 2 years and without fail I will STILL reach out to them annually, once.  Just in case....

Is there anything sweeter than seeing a prospect who ghosted you cc'd on an email from their boss?
