How to avoid being “that SDR”?

Looking for tips from AE’s and closers here...

Everyone knows the story of the dumpster fire SDR who’s the punchline of every team joke. As a relatively new recruit (within my first year of SaaS), what are some key takeaways in order to avoid being “that guy”.

* I’m not really the ass-kissing type so a list of what not to do would be preferred.

Don't book shit appointments.  Don't lie under opportunities. Leave detailed notes for me to review.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Reallllllly want to emphasize the good notes. That makes such a difference. I've fought and put my very limited political capital (IC after all) into play for B/S/MDRs to get promoted just because they made my life so much easier.

Show that you want to learn and that you can take feedback. I've seen whiny SDRs complain that reps were mean to them just because a rep was like "hey, this is why this lead isn't such a good fit." If you do that shit, you're dead to that rep.

I've actually never run into lying folks in your role so my sympathies to those that have. But yeah, if you lie, the reps will go out of their way to make sure you don't get promoted.

Mid-Market AE
People who are good at this role are going to be constantly looking to self improve. An AE wants an SDR who will set up good deals for them and most will give feedback or point you in the right direction to get better.

The biggest mistake that will get an SDR in an AE's bad books is putting through BS appointments. Especially putting through BS appointments and lying about it.

Notes that state how excited the prospect is to have the meeting then you get the prospect on the phone and they act like they'd rather be dead than talking to you - that sort of thing is infuriating.

Heard, thank you 🙏🏼

Currently operating in an org that pushes quantity over quality so I’ve accepted lower numbers for a higher close rate.

Personally, I will take any meeting that is thrown on my calendar but don't be upset if I do not move it in to pipeline.  All meetings are an opportunity to spread awareness in an account but don't get mad if I don't move it forward.  Take the feedback on why and continue to cultivate the account.
