How to get a job you aren't qualified for?

Curiuos what your thoughts are on this. Not just in sales, but other careers also. One piece of advice I've been given is talk to people that have that position if possible. Any other tips? I'm looking at account manager and account development positions coming from an SDR position.

"Qualified" is largely subjective. Believe what you want the narrative to be and live that.

First, obvious answer is pay your dues with entry level positions to become qualified for the job.

Second, maybe less obvious answer that you might be looking for in the way of a shortcut is 'fake it till you make it' and don't be surprised if you get a bit of a reality check during the interview process.

I can tell you from experience, I managed to be one of two final applicants for a job I was supremely under-qualified for close to 10 years ago. I was sweating bullets and went through a lengthy panel interview and its probably a good thing I didn't get the job because I wasn't ready for it but going through that experience helped me identify the delta between where I was in my sales career and where I needed to be.

Hope that helps!
