How to improve boss engagement?

What have people done to improve engagement with their VP?

A little backstory, my VP has rarely gotten involved in any deals (no matter the size) and doesn't seem engaged in understanding where our revenue comes from. On the one hand I love the autonomy and the fact that I'm not being micro managed, but when this person is the final decision maker on quotas, raises, promotions, etc. I'd like them to have a better idea as to what we do on a daily basis.

Any tips on how to improve their engagement in the sales process, or even understanding where their bonus comes from?

If the VP isn't doing any of the things listed here, what in the hell are they doing?

I see we both have the same question!

Have you asked them to sit in at any stage and if so, what was the response/feedback?

I can text/call/email the president of my company at any second and he will willingly jump on the phone with myself and the customer if I think it will help move a deal along.

I for one think leadership involvement is critical with the sales team.

Early on, yes. They were open to being involved and attending meetings/calls with prospects. Over time that engagement has waned, and my requests along with it.

Invite them on calls with bigger deals or final presentation meeting. Make sure they have a part where they are responsible for speaking. This includes your internal pre-meetings leading up to your client meeting. Show off your skills!

I like that strategy. It gives them ownership of a part of the process and forces them to engage beyond the surface level. Thanks!
