Take the 5 minutes to read this article please; it is more about how the employer should treat departures than the departing employee. Fantastic, yet common sense read. In hindsight, this article also holds true to how Soldiers/Officers were treated whenever they were relieved of command/position, punished, or received an adverse action from my direct and indirect observations over my 23-year career. I personally have treated Soldiers that I issued Article 15s the correct and the wrong way (as it relates to this article). Those Soldiers that I took the time to point out all of the great things they have done and that I know they can recover from this punishment and continue to do typically did do that, whereas those that I just slammed them throughout didn't. I personally was let go from my job in an unprofessional manner that was counter to the pro-Veteran theme the company espouses, and I know from peers and subordinates I worked with that have reached out to me has caused them to worry about if they could get treated the same way.
Regardless, whether you are a Christian or not, this verse on how to treat others holds true: "All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets." (Matthew 7:12)
