I have tried a couple times to get multiple LI profiles but get nabbed each time...anyone know how? I have not tried different IP addresses and I wonder if that's the key...

You have to use separate emails. Just create a fake gmail and use that

This is a HOW question not a WHY question...in any case I will appease on this occasion and suggest some possible WHYs:
- working on 2+ totally different projects
- want to create vertical-specific profiles
- might have a suite of products for different roles
- want to have a separate profile for a separate email address to multichannel
- might want to be an unintimidatingly attractive female just for kicks (and increased unqualified replies at ToFu)
- more connect/message volume
