How to properly give a Two Week Notice?

Wondering best practice for handing in a two week notice, not just to the bosses but also to the customers. Job is underpaid and employees are undervalued, but relationships with customers are incredibly strong and were the only reasons I remained at the job.

What's the best way to let people know? And how do you hand off a customer to somebody else without them feeling slighted?

“Hi <customer>, I want to let you know this will be my last week(s) with <company>. I have really enjoyed working with you, and I hope our paths cross again in the future.

(*if they are a current customer include the below as well* )

I have copied <rep name> who will be taking over as your new point of contact. <rep name> has been here for x years so you are in great hands! I will let you take it from here”

(End email)

Then, at your new role if you will be covering them as an account, reach out on your new domain. DO NOT tell them where you are going in the farewell email, that can often be viewed as poaching.

Exactly this. Customers know that people change jobs and aren't going to feel slighted as long as they're kept in the loop and someone else is there to take over.

Also speak with the reps who will be taking over your accounts to give them the lowdown about what the prospect is like, any recent conversations etc so they aren't caught off guard, especially if the customer is an asshole/tough to reach/etc.

They're going for the world record. They will not stop until the entire world knows your blood type, SSN, and what you ate for breakfast on September 3rd 1997.

Well that I can confirm it was a bagel with cream cheese. I ate that for breakfast basically my entire childhood during the week, and that was a Wednesday

Perfect approach. People come and go - best practice here is involve the new process owners and leave in a nice tone.

Keep it short and let them know you will reach out once you are settled in your new role.

True story:

"slack your boss: Sorry for your loss.

His clueless ass: ?

my savage ass: It's me, I'm the loss. I'm putting in my 2 weeks today."

To this day he hasn't responded

pure savagery.

short sweet, and emotionless to the employer. For customers that you cared about a quick note and letting them know who their POC is.

You don't owe it to your customers to give them a "2 weeks Notice". If you have an active deal, you may want to mention it on a phonecall, but NEVER in email. Never give your company any insight or information as to your next move. They will fire you in a moments notice and replace you, so act accordingly.

I disagree with this. I was given more than two weeks and told everyone where I was going. It depends on your relationship with your employer.

Be careful if you have a non-compete non-solicit in place. Might be best to not send anything out if you do.
