Who took over their role? When did they start? What's their phone number? I'd get as much info as they are willing to give.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I would also add that you may not get all of that information. But at the very least, you now know there's somebody else and you can call later that day/week and start to gather that information until you're ready to make the call to the new person.

"Oh, didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know. Do you, by chance, know who took over his role? ...Could you connect me with him/her?"

I would in that instance, attempt to give as minimal information regarding who you are or what company you work for then maybe leave on ice for a month or two.

Just wait until you ask for someone who has died... that one's real hard to recover from!

Possibly unethical....but say you have spoken with that person a few months back so you are following up.  Who would be the right person to speak to?

How do you all handle a situation where a prospect has a contract approved and is ready for signature, but one of their family members just passed away? Want to be extremely sensitive to the situation...feel there's never a "right" time to reach out and never want to be salesy...
