How would you answer "What's the best way to communicate with clients?" in an interview?

If you guys were in the middle of an interview with a hiring/sales manager for a sales role, how would you answer this question? "What's the best way to communicate with clients?"

It's very broad and could lead to a lot of different replies. What do you think is the best one to get some extra points, impress the manager, and move further down the recruitment process?

I would answer with the 3 things I try to keep in mind when speaking with clients: being transparent, direct, and curious. I like to be seen as a trusted advisor with clients and prospect so I think transparency is super important. Im also direct, I don't want to waste their time or beat around the bush. Being curious will allow you ask questions that create upsell/cross selling opportunities.ย

The way my prospect wants me to communicate with them. Sales is about building rapport, and mirroring your prospects in style and method is crucial to doing that.ย

I'd probably say, I don't understand the question, what do you mean?

Use active phrases Turn passive phrases into active phrases, that transmits more confidence and dynamism. For example, instead of "It's getting ready" you can say "I'm getting it ready right now." Highlight the benefits Remember that what really matters to the customer are the advantages they will get from your product or service, not the technical characteristics or how wonderful your company is.

I would say..ย

#1. I would speak with value, I value them and our relationship.ย

#2. I speak honestly. I will never lie, mislead or say something that I don't know to be true

#3.ย  I will speak light heartedly because no one likes someone that takes themselves too serious.ย

@SaaSguyย said a fair point, id like to add or emphasize on the transparent part is setting expectations.ย
This could fall under transparency or directness both work really. But the best way to make your case is tk add an example so that your hiring manager can imagine you handling this situation.ย

I would through the discovery process find out from them the best way to communicate with them. Follow that up with, asking the interviewer if that is what they mean or if they can elaborate on their question.

1- if we have established a connection already then check with client whatโ€™s the best way to communicate 2- if not connected, make sure you connect and LinkedIn and prefere to communicate via email so we have every record saved. Not all calls can be recorded so โ€ฆ

Have you had a conversation with your manager about what you want to accomplish and that you want more responsibility?

I think it's dependent on the person itself. Some don't WANT to move forward into leadership or other roles, others crave that. I feel it's moreso on what YOUR long term goals are overall.
