How would you feel about 82% quota attainment for the year?

This is what I'm sitting at with nothing left in the pipe. just found out I lost a big deal that would have put me over.
We often hear people say 'X' percent of reps hit quota but there's potentially a large variance within the reps who misssed.
I look at it and think, that's not bad considering the economy (I also moved from MM to ENT mid year which increased my quota a bit but I inherited 0 pipe and there's been 1 real sales cycle since then).
My point is more - do people consider hitting in the 75-90% range as failing since it's not at quota or is it fairly solid in your opinion?

soooo i think it depends on what everyone else is doing on your team.
if everyone one else is at 115% and your at 82%....not good.

but if everyone is the same or lower, yeah i would not be to pissed about it. i know this year has been BRUTAL for lots of industries.

ok so i wouldnt panic about it. were the other 2 folks above 100%?

ether way i dont think that looks too bad. i mean lets be honest, we are not going to hit quota EVERY year. and this is not an uncommon year for ppl to miss it.

Precisely, it's relative to where your peers are at and overall team performance. If you're in the bottom 20%... no es bueno.

It's still a good thing, especially where you had to make a shift and basically re-start your pipe and forecast. I think it's ok, just need to make up for it next year. Not that I owe it to the company, I just realize that I left money on the table.

anything above 80% is pretty good from my experience.

I think if you are the top rep on the team then its something to be proud or if you are new in the role. Also, depending how much the economy has infected the industry it can be something you are very proud of.

Countless reps put up a $0 in Q4 due to the economy and clients cutting budgets. 82% is something to be proud of IMO

Unhappy of course that I'm not hitting target and want to get to that 100% but alright since that is a good place to be overall

It all depends on context. I'm probably going to end up somewhere around that % and as of today i'm in the top 15% of reps in my role globally and top in my team.

Q4 is rough so far

Depends on how the quota was set.

For example, I'm technically under this year but our boss' calc had a few errors that added a couple of mill over our actual number and they never corrected it so whenever they send the reports I just laugh and archive it.

Rev is also up ~13% YoY after a 200%+ gain in 2020 so I'm not worried.

I think that there is an interesting cultural note here.

I am assuming (perhaps erroneously) you are American. Because of that I can assume that you, like I, have been taught that anything less than an A is because you missed something. You didn't get 80%, you got -20%.

Now I did a study abroad in France and I was HORRIFIED the first time I got an assignment back. They grade on a "20" scale. I received a 14. I was devastated. The whole walk back from class I just tore myself apart. My host mother asked what was up, and I showed her the grade. She was genuinely elated and congratulated me. Sensing my confusion she told me "a good student gets a 12, an exceptional gets a 13. A professor can get a 14, and 15 and above is reserved for God." As she was devoutly atheist I understood it was not possible to score my American "20" I wanted.

Now, it matters how you are measured of course, but I think it is a good story to remember that there is always room to improve. Do YOU think you showed up and executed to your capacity?

I'd be content, but still not satisfied. Mostly because I'd still be worried about management's/higher up's perception.

It's solid, but as competitive people, it's hard to miss that 100%.

Sounds like you did well in a bad economy, though, so congratulations for that!

I agree with this. That's more than many have hit this year.

Are you confident you did everything to get to or above 100%? Are others in a similar position? And are you content?

if yes to all above then let it be.

Overall barring many of the other comments that I agree I would say that anything over 80% is average, 90%+ is very good and 100%+ is fantastic. The point of quotas is to incentivize the sales staff to push and attain the sales dollars to pay for themselves but also to add growth to the company.

My last company I worked for had team goals rather than individual ones. the team had 3 levels of bonus (Red line, Yellow, Green) Red line was the minimum goal giving a 20% bonus, Yellow gave 30% and was the true goal, Green gave a 40% bonus. The way this was calculated was a bit convoluted but in essence equated to the following sales growth Red = 15%, Yellow = 20%, Red = 30%

Many companies try to make quota hard to achieve so they don't have to pay accelerators. If you're at 82%, that's solid.

The same was as on 50 or even 99% as a failure and underachievement.

The question on where did you rank is more important than hitting quota. Sitting in the top 30% is solid. Generally, between #1 or #3-4ish is just some luck with timing vs skill.
