HR requesting meeting after panel interview - tempted to think it is a good sign -- thoughts?

Hey folks: Curious to know if anyone has experienced something like this.

My Director was let go in January. He "failed upwards" and quickly found himself a role as a RVP in a new company. He suggested I take a look at the new company and helped me to secure an interview.

First talks were simple screenings with a Junior Talent Acquisition person. That seemed straightforward. Next stop was a half-hour with the actual hiring manager. I did my homework, and the first talk went very well. Hiring Mgr told me that the process would move rapidly and that I could expect a panel interview that was a role-play case-study type of interview, followed by a one-on-one with an executive. The Jr Talent Acquisition person confirmed the process and commented that my interview was strong. The panel interview was setup immediatley.

Panel interview felt very positive as well. I was told to expect to hear back in a week. After a week, there were only cricket sounds, so I reached out via LinkedIn with some relevant follow up and some questions. The hiring manager responded quickly via LInkedIn and repeated that my interview was strong but that they had one additional interview before deciding who would move forward. The Junior Talent Acquisition person echoed this an hour later via email. The Jr T/A said that I could expect to hear something early the week of 7/7

On Wednesday 7/3 a new person, a Senior Talent Acquisition person wrote via email to introduce herself. She apologized for being out of office during my interviews and asked me for a fifteen minute call on Tuesday the 8th.

Does this step seem normal or strange from y'alls experience? Any idea what to expect?

Thanks,

You’ll have to show up to find out, but considering the number of stories I’ve seen from candidates who got flat out ghosted at the end of the hiring process, this is better.

Question: when you started this process, did they tell you (did you ask) about all the steps in the process so you’d know what to expect?

Sounds to me like the Sr TA person wanted to inject themselves into the process. Treat it like a real interview. Do the homework on the person. They might be taking over everything or they might be doing a simple check on the Jr person’s analysis of you.

If they were going to reject you it'd probably be via email.

Pretty normal, HR probably wants to get aligned on comp and benefits along with start date if that all hasn't been fleshed out yet

I see it as a good sign as she wants to book a time with you. Most HRs won’t book a time to tell you that you are rejected unless it’s a leadership role but in many cases they do when it’s through a reference. Having said that, you still have to find out. All the best, hopefully it’s good news.

HR often has a habit of forcing themselves into the process. Kind of a survival mechanism for them LOLMost likely it's neutral or positive. Keep doing what got you there.

Additional steps are always a good sign. Not sure why the Sr. TA would want to connect after 3-4 rounds of interviews - A good-good sign or maybe additional steps.

More importantly, just don't get your hopes up till you see an offer letter. That's what many have learned the hard way.

Best of luck and would be waiting to hear the news!!!! :D

Feels neutral to me - in the sense that you already have strong positive signals, this isn't moving the needle...Sr TA OOO during the first steps of your process gets back and wants to connect because they will be who gives you the offer down the road, should it come to that...so rather than just get the notes and introduce themselves at the offer stage, they're getting into the process now....additionally, a lot of time Sr TA folks like to get to know you so they can see if there are other opps that make sense for you (makes their jobs easier) if this specific role doesn't work out...
Good luck and let us know how it shakes out today!
Cheers!

Hi everyone. I appreciate all the input. The update is that we will never know the outcome. The SR Talent Acquisition person cancelled my afternoon call with a note explaining that "due to internal company circumstance, they will not pursue filling this role this quarter"
Back to the job hunt pipeline!

Ok piece of advice. Start asking for in-person meetings and ask them when the vendor day is.
