Hubspot AE

Hi savages,

I'm interviewing with Hubspot for a mid market role in the EU.

Base:70k
OTE: 120k

Anybody working for them? or used to?

it's not a a big bump in pay. However, it s uncapped compared to what I have now. Also the cycles with hubspot are a lot shorter (but dealsizes are lower as well).

Thanks for your input.

“A friend” I know works there now in the US. I mean, company culture rocks but base pay sucks. Also it’s an extremely hard job closing even small deals, and it’s a struggle to hit quota. If you’re in a solid territory, you’re Gucci. But 120 a year is meh Ngl.

You should be looking for a base of at least 100 dude

I have a friend who works at hubspot now, and has been w them since june 2021 in the MM AE role in the US. the recruiter said ppl were getting $180k on their W2s... so $120k euros or dollars is no bueno for you. the official OTE the US recruiter gave my friend was $140k and $65k base. (Median take home on a W2 50 percentile $180k) Between 25%-40% reps hit President’s Club. $10,000 in RSUs and 1 year cliff and 4 year vesting so $2,500 year in RSUs. Avg sales cycle 20-30 days for new logo. They allow MM AE reps to request 2 months in the year to have a half quota; use that to your advantage to blow your number out of the water percentage wise, $1k upfront for stipend for WFH. Hope that helps!

Thanks! This is close to what they offered. I got 20k RSU with 1 year vesting if they explained it right.
20-30 days new logo seems really quit. Just nothing I´m used to.

I almost went with them, honestly all of the things looked good but I ended up boomerang-ing back to where I was.  The recruiter I was working with a while ago went into Sales there so that is an endorsement in and of itself, for him to be like, "wow, I can make more money selling HS than bringing in candidates to HS."  Also, a lot of the people I have seen there get promoted a bit quickly and they have great benefits.  The only unknown for me is how it is for them in EU.

A recruiter going into sales is an awesome endorsement!

I´m getting a lot of positive answers from people. Thanks for your help!

Know some folks there. It was excellent a few years back. Still pretty good, lost some sheen though.

For a midmarket role you should definitely get that OTE pumped up. I wouldn’t sign for less than 150k.
However I believe Hubspot is a good company and the benefits are awesome — the people that I know there are happy, except for the one exception. Very flexible working conditions such as remote work are taken seriously.
And Hubspot is still a great tool, curious to see if they will steal some Salesforce customers now that they are developing their CRM more and more.

I see some things that make me nervous
- a lot of recent AE hires
- Recruiter could not give me a number on quota attainment in the AE group for my region
- 2months sales cycle seems short

How easy is the product to sell?
How´s the culture?
Stuff like that

Hubspot overall is a pretty transactional sale. 2 months is not abnormally short. If you are in the Small Business segment, certainly the cycles are shorter.

Recruiter probably didnt give you an attainment number because they're a public company. Most reps hit quota while I was there.

I was new into SaaS when I started and I absolutely learned a lot, worked with some talented people and sold a product for a very well known company with solid lead flow.

Culture-wise, I think it depends on whether you are in the office or fully remote. I havent worked there in 3 years and they since have a new CEO which may have changed things, but it was absolutely a very Boston bro culture. If you were from New England and in one of the cooler HubSpot cliques, you had a much different experience than someone who was on the outside.

Thanks! This is really helpful. I had a bad experience with a big US company in the past and got nervous about it.

Have a very good friend who works there and seems to have it pretty cushy as an AE. He got me an interview there but I passed because I had a higher offer elsewhere

In my opinion they are a direct competitor to Salesforce with an inferior product and a fraction of the market share BUT with outsized brand recognition.

In my experience you would make materially more at Salesforce for all equivalent sales roles so you gotta really love the Hubspot culture to wanna go there.

SF is ripping a lot of HubSpot reps (from what I hear), but paying like 100k base for the same role. So I mean again its a sick job, but year 1 realistically after taxes you'll be lucky to take home over 70k. Just my 2 cents from a friend who "works there".
