Hyper-personalized follow up. How much is too cheesy

Situation update. I posted a week or so ago about a follow up situation and some of you had some great tips however unfortunately my contact still is ghosting me.

I kind of want to make one last ditch attempt before I go down the break up email route. Now I know this person is clearly a huge fan of star wars, their office was packed with posters, memorabilia and models.

Now what I am wondering is whether I should send a Star War themed follow up message, maybe something that starts like "A long time ago , in a galaxy far far away we had a meeting.... etc."

Probably a daft question but is this too cheesy, an approach that would turn you off or something that might just work and if anything worth a punt?

I looked at your other thread, if I'm reading into it correctly you just emailed him last week, you met right before the holidays, and he's a busy GM of a large company.

I think that you need to let the guy breathe. You don't want to come off as desperate or hounding. He could be ghosting you because he's not interested, but he could also be focused on more pressing matters (retail is obviously getting hit hard af right now,) and dealing with stuff that had to be put off over the holidays (busiest time for retail as I'm sure you're aware.)

I'd try calling once later this week, then once more next week. If you still can't get a hold of him the second time I'd send a simple email with:

"Hi Prospect,

Is the x discussion still a priority for you?"

It's likely to prompt some kind of response, either positive or negative and you'll get your answer.

The personalized emails make me cringe. Unless there's some solid existing rapport and you know it'll at least make the other person chuckle, keep it professional.

Exactly this. If they get a tiny whiff of despair they will own you.

Thanks Coups, that helps.  I agree I dont want to come across as desperate.  Original meeting was early November.  I was a bit over excited and made a rookie mistake and didnt set a clear next step strategy which I think has lead to where I am at with them.  I'll keep calling for now and send an email like you suggest when I feel its exhausted.

I had some great tips on there and I did send a follow up from the advice from pbc but not had a response yet.  I think coups and GDO are right, give some room.

Give him some room. If he did not reply use your StarWars Hail Mary! Good luck!

I think your right, I'll leave him for some time.  The StarWars email will literally be my last ditch attempt I reckon, more just to see if it works cos im curious lol

* Never send a breakup email - it's like a kid having a hissy fit.
* Your prospect is not responding for one of several reasons. Either you were not relevant, did not provide any insight or value, or they didn't receive the message. A breakup email fixes absolutely none of that.
* I would recommend you use a meme (visual humor), apologise for perhaps being spammy, and ask if maybe you should have been contacting someone else (ask if your original prospect can refer you to the correct person).

The starwars idea is excellent by the way.

For all you mail mergers out there, do you see more success emailing one DM or all DMs on a custom thread? I've noticed that putting all relevant DMs on one campaign that is 100% customized to their business has a much higher response rate (28% meeting sucess)
