I almost had a job becoming a high ticket closer, I just lack the experience.

I had an interview yesterday and it was a high ticket sales position, turns out I lack mentorship for that position. I honestly don't know who to go to for that.

Let's break this down.

You can't get a role selling high ACV/ticket items unless you have proven your skill set by doing it...which seems backward, but you can do this by simply selling more of what you sell now and/or finding higher-value clients based on the rules of engagement of your sales org. No cap on deal size? Find the clients that can buy higher contract values.

Need a mentor? Find 2-3 sales professionals in your industry that you feel are influential/have something that you could learn from them and reach out. Ask if they'd be willing to connect with you to discuss career progression and offer advice from time to time. I have done this a few times now for folks and I have enjoyed it 9/10 times.

this SOUNDS like good advice
and generically it is
but in truth, the only way to learn to be a high-ticket closer
is to be trained to be a high-ticket closer
which means OP would have to be mentored by a high-ticket closer, not just a 'sales professional' in general

If that sales professional hasn't sold in the high-ticket space
OP won't learn what he needs to learn

What is your definition of a high-ticket deal?

Seems to be industry dependent.

The way I broke thru this was by joining a startup with less rules and restrictions, and then finding some big-ass deals to take down ($800K + ACV).

Learned a ton during that process, and now tell that story during interviews.

There's a lot of attraction to big, well-established companies for big sales jobs, but it's a hard grind to prove your worth in such a risk-averse atmosphere.

Startups or earlier stage companies take far more risks, including on the experience level of their staff. A great crucible to learn from.

My definition for a high ticket position is revolving around what I'm selling and the close rate I need to fulfill in order to meet a personal quota.

Looking for a well established company with that position is going to be tough with my level of experience, and the startup company I had to leave had more pitfalls than I was aware of.

I learned to leave certain deals on the table that just didn't feel right when I joined the team.

I've looked and some just don't have anything solidified. I'm about to work with two part time, whichever one brings in the most overall I'll devote my time to it.

I signed up for RCA (and their high-level program Ascenscion, afterward)
and even with 20 years experience in sales
I can say that it is WORTH EVERY PENNY

- you'll learn the specific sales skills to be a setter or closer
- these skills overlap with, but are not the same as, the skills you acquire as an SDR or AE
- you'll get placed with a business that needs a setter or closer, and be taught how to find your own gigs too
- the coaches are amazing, and care about your progress
- the community is outstanding
