I feel like nothing is ever enough

I think that I need therapy...this isn't a joke lol but I feel like nothing I do is never good enough. I can have a huge month and close a ton of deals and I still want more and like its was good enough. I can get a huge 15k commission check, and erase 2-4 debts, but its never enough, and the list goes on! I keep saying it is cause I hold myself at a super high level, which can be slightly true...I feel like its something holding me back & I don't know what!

Anyone else deal with this?

You'll never be satisfied with the size of your commission checks. For the last 6 months I've consistently had a bigger check month over month. Numbers I dreamed about in the beginning of my career are now well behind me and I still want more.

I'm wrapping up my first six figure month of my career and I'm already thirsty for something more.

My advice, spend time with family. Use that money to build lasting memories and great experiences. Take a trip with your loved ones. That's where the satisfaction kicks in. When you see them enjoying something that you made possible. That feeling is beyond compare.

Thanks! I think that is a good way to look at it!

What are you selling @saasam where youโ€™re clearing a six figure commission check for a single month?

It's pretty niche so I can't really get into specifics without making my company and subsequent personal LI literally like 2 searches away. But basically a combination of software that we developed for large law practices and correlated services that we provide alongside it. They don't have to go hand in hand but often do because of the upside. So, when they come to me for one, they almost always come back for the other.

I think that you are tying your satisfaction to the wrong things.

As hunters, we're always after the next deal. So it's normal to not be satisfied, as the role we are in demands that we're ready to get back out there, as the job is not done.

Balance is key - good for you for landing those checks and eliminating debt. Make sure you take care of yourself. What makes you happy? What do you enjoy? Travel? Going to music festivals on long weekends with your friends? Time with family? Make sure some of your time and energy goes into future plans for fun and things you enjoy short term (a trip to Costa Rica if that's your thing plus a camping weekend in the next few weeks). Recharging and having things to look forward to are critical, I've found.

Then I'm often ready to jump back into the fray. :)

Enough can be difficult to learn for some people. Youโ€™re on the right track. Talk to someone (therapist is a good start)

I'm only an SDR so not sure how valuable you'll find this.

Other than getting commission checks, is there anything else you find value in? I'm asking because it sounds like you are equating how much you can make in commission to your worth.

For me personally, I only felt how you have when my worth depended on something/someone who was not solid. I needed a firm foundation to put my worth into. Hope you find your firm foundation and perhaps that might help you like it has me.

i mean i am a HUGE fan of therapy so I would for sure look into that.

Also, that is how money works. you will never be satisfied with a number.

One thing my wife and I do, is when ever we get a big check, we ALWAYS talk about the "old days" (which was just a few years ago) where we were BROKE and couldn't do anything and life sucked.

we always take a second to appreciate that we are not there anymore and celebrate our victories. idk it kind of grounds us and helps to stop and think about how awesome it is now and if it never gets better, we will be 100% ok!

No problem trying out therarpy. Feel like a lot of companies will pay for x amount of visits so why not try it out.

I have been thinking about it too, and seeing its free/super easy to do virtually has me wanting to sign up

Start having goals in life outside of sales and see how sales helps those goals. Can you afford a new place in a city you always wanted? Then work towards that instead of chasing a revolving number.

This is slightly random advice - but creating a hobby that allows you to finish the task and know you are done. I fix motorcycles, why? Because when it is fixed, it's done, I can not wonder if I can push harder, or do more....its fixed.

Sales unfortunately has no ending, commission is never ending, but a hobby that you can complete makes you feel whole again.

Do not discount therapy - I am in it myself, but this is advice that helped me alongside my therapy.
