I got hired over.

So I made a post about a VP role we were hiring for on my team.

I asked my boss if this would be my new boss and he said he wasnt sure.

Ive made it extremely clear that my desires is to grow the sales team and own that growth.

I was told recently that this new VP will be a people manager and I wont (at least for now) and I will end up reporting to him.

So this sucks since if any new hires happen it will now fall under him not me.

I will most likely be involved with developing any new hires but the future I had envisioned seems a bit less likely to happen now.

Trying to stay positive and just focus on what I can control, but it just kinda sucks.

Not trying to spin this into a positive but man, less weight on your shoulders isn't always the worst thing in the world.

Sorry to hear this, my friend.

Shit like this always hurts.

On the bright side, @Justatitle is correct.

You know you can rant as much as you'd like here, if you get the inclination to do so.

A number of years ago I got passed up for a promotion. The guy that got the role ended up being one of my greatest allies and mentors. It sucked in the moment but I leaned in and it changed the trajectory of my career.

Yup, this is a good thing for you hitting your number. But you might need to make a move if you want that leadership role.

this is what sucks. cus the best shot i have of leading a team is at this company due to the knowledge and relationships I have.

Yup, and the guy above you either has to flame out or find a better place to land. Either way, you probably wonโ€™t be able to take over without a lot of things happening in your favor

Been there my friend. The silver lining is that they view you as a valuable sales person and really want you in that role.

Sorry to hear this Tennis, really sucks when companies look externally for the role you want.
Take some time away from screens to decompress, then come back better than ever!

It sucks and it stings, I to have been passed up in my former industry many time when the positon should have been mine. But I held my head up, remained focused on the task at hand, controlled what I could control (Myself) and eventually the position I was looking became mine. It's not easy but keep your head up my friend. Your destiny is but a step away.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
