I hate being a Loan Officer - transferable fields/jobs?

Relying on leads from realtors, dealing with volatile interest rates, people are so unorganized, bad appraisals, defective titles, no control over the process, one-off sales: I want out. I need to be busy every day and feel like I get somewhere. Any recommendations or successful switches for anyone?

It’s tough to be a loan officer now but that will eventually flip.

What's your tech stack? Start interviewing at those companies. You are the target market, you can speak the language and know the pain points backward and forwards.

Don't have any tech stack? Make a wishlist of what would make your job easier, find that tech, interview there.

Look to see if there are any real estate tech companies hiring. Your experience/industry knowledge would be relevant and would be a good place to start if you want to get into tech sales.

I would sit and think what I want to do and which industry I want to be in. If you think you can do wonders in real estate as you know the industry in and out, find some tech companies catering to the same client base as punishedlad mentioned

Hi, there fellow loan Officer :) The first job I ever got was selling business loans to SMBs, and I feel you. The second job I got was in a training institute, selling executive training events mainly to finance, and banking professionals. So...my experience of working in a bank came quite handy during the interview and then on the job itself.
there`s an idea for you :)

Are you willing to take an initial pay/title decrease?

I was an MLO for 4 years before making the jump to SaaS. I took a pretty big pay and title decrease to break into the cybersecurity SaaS space and start as an SDR. Went from $140k > $75k but it was worth it because now I'm coming up on 4 years in the tech space making way more than I did as an MLO.

Age definitely plays a factor because I was 26 when I made the move so that may not be the same story for you. What worked for me was googling "top tech companies to work for" and just applying to as many as I possibly could. I applied 100+ times. Had to explain why tech, why me, and position my B2C experience and why it would transition well to B2B. Eventually I found a company to take a shot at me and it paid off.

Good luck! Happy to help if you want to PM me. I've helped a couple of my MLO buddies move to tech as well.
