I just joined the Room and I love Cold Calling

I see a lot of posts on LinkedIn that disparage cold calling. I feel that social selling and highly personalized emails are a fad that is starting to be discovered by prospects. I still believe calling is the #1 tactic to book a meeting.

As long as phones exist, cold calls will get meetings. I would much rather get someone on the phone than try to set a meeting over an email exchange.

It seems like some SDRs want to "kill cold calling" because of its instant rejectionย

Those SDRs will fall off soon enough. The ones that will rise up...never hesitate to pick up the phone.ย

I call people to set meetings. I also email people to set meetings. They both work.

The combination is most powerful. I always got taught it takes at least 7 reach outs before you can give up on the prospect.

Cold calling still works. It just works better in combination with personalized mails and social selling.

Is it even "cold" calling at that point?

More than questioning if the process still works or not, we should ask if we like it in the first place.ย

Most people asking these questions hate cold calling anyways.ย

Iโ€™ve been wondering thisโ€ฆ

For the folks who find it โ€œbadโ€ or โ€œdeadโ€, how in the hell do you grow?

And you canโ€™t say oh, emails work great when you donโ€™t even look at cold/vendor emails.

My take is that calling is the quickest way to get some sort of outcome that is going to either move the needle forward or put things on pause.

My thoughts exactly, as an SDR I am paid to get meetings. The personalized long game is more valid for an AE

I think SDRs are pushing the narrative because cold calling takes personality and people skills.

Most certainly, and I think now that the SDR role is so popular especially for college grads, there are more introverts getting into sales now than ever, so this might be one of the factors coming into the thought process that cold calling may be dying - bc these people don't like doing it and there is now a lot of them. They just need to except cold calling will never die.ย ย
