Some context, if I do not know them, I will hear them out so I am not talking about these people. However, I have had connections who were Managers from past companies as well as Managers/Leaders/Sellers at companies I wanted to work for that more or less ignored me. Due to landing at a good company last year that is a brand name in the market, some of these have asked me for help or a way to refer them. I sort of just ignore these messages now and don't help them.
Like I get it, its a tough market and everyone needs a helping hand but I guess I have some growing up to do. However, it is like when I asked you for help and was hoping you would help me, you just either ignored my LinkedIn message or did not even bother to talk to me when we worked at the same company.
A couple instances come to mind.
Sales leader at my second-ever SaaS role.
I was on a team I disliked and I would run into this woman all the time in the break room. She was leading an SMB AE team while I was a senior SDR. Tried to ask her what it took to be on her SMB team and I heard a "Well talk to your manager she can make the case".
Reaches out to me a month ago asking to be referred in to my current company. How about no.....
Connection at a company I always wanted to work for.
Guy works at a company that I always wanted to work for so I reach out to him on LinkedIn. Message him with my resume and ask if I can have some time to discuss an open role. Ignores me.
2 years later, reaches out to me saying why he will be a strong fit for an open role and how I can benefit from a referral bonus. I benefit from not helping you here bro.
I get it, I have a lot of growing up to do but seriously, why do people think you are going to help them when they never helped you out as the opportunity presented itself?
