Yeesh reading that made me uncomfortable.

Have you tried the approach of, "Hey I overheard you say blah blah blah. Does it work? How do they react when you make that statement?" Make em talk instead of coming at them.

I should try that. Especially since that's what @poweredbycaffeineย asked me too. Maybe repeating the wording to the rep will make them realize the awkwardness in the question. ๐Ÿ˜‚

That is one of my least favorite cold call openers. That and โ€œthis will only take 30 seconds of your timeโ€. One thing you could try is to challenge the team to try different cold call opens - somewhat of an A/B test with themselves. Then give them ideas and suggestions about some openers they could try. It will make it feel a bit like a game or a challenge, and we all know how much sales people like to win.

Ask them how they would respond if some random person called them and said he I noticed you just woke up, want to grab coffee in 15. Basically the same shit.

Alright, next up: what do you say when you see someone opens your email? How do you open the conversation?

I personally don't acknowledge it, I try to just call them when they open my email. Sometimes they make comments like "I was just looking at your email" and I call it a coincident and move on to talk about the reason I called.

This is the best approach. So many times I get them saying "Wow what a coincidence or were your ears burning?"

My go to usually is :ย

Hey I dropped a note to you this morning, not sure if you had a chance to take a peek.ย

They usually say no and then you transition to why you're calling (then usual script). If the convo goes well I slip in, "mind taking a look right away on what I sent you this morning?"ย

They take a look, the more they browse the better. Go for the ask and you're set!ย

Its cringe. It's like going to a bar asking out the first woman, getting turned down and coming back a minute later (covered in vomit and booze) and saying Do YoU WanT To gO OuT WiTH mE yET?

I would avoid talking to them about it. Most people don't want unsolicited advice from a coworker. (Even if you are absolutely correct)

But it's worth having a conversation with your manager and bringing up the topic. No reason he/she can't address openers in a team meeting or one on one call reviews. Plus you can be clear, you aren't looking to overstep, but you heard this a few times and blah blah blah

I agree- that was what I was sort of leaning towards as well. Only issue I foresee is my boss kind of has loose lips so I don't want people to think I'm talking shit about them either in which case, I'd rather just address them myself.

I mean you can always flat out ask them. "Hey I heard you saying this. Does that actually work? My gut is saying no, but curious if I way off base here?"

Or tell your boss the same thing. "On our next team meeting can we discuss this? I dont do it but I'm curious if its working."ย

Then there's no judgement and maybe there is like a 25% hang up rate but a 50% engagement rate. I doubt it but you never know

That's super creepy and will never get a good response. Easiest way to handle it is to tell them its super creepy and to stop doing it because it reflects poorly on your company and its sales tactics. Your company doesn't want to be known for creepy and stupid sales tactics. (I'm looking at you Gong reps)

Good lord almighty this is Cringe. I hope they don't use read receipts, and do this with people they want to date and say "I sAw YoU oPeNeD mY tExT."

Honestly, even that is less cringey to me because at least the other person knows they have read receipts on... Our prospects may or may not know (depending on their role, obviously sales people know but that's not always who we pitch to) that we get notifications that they opened our emails.

Valid point, it can just come across as plain weird to the prospect and start any potential relationship on rocky footing.
