I sell those leads Marketing is sending you

Hi everyone,

Just got in here, thought I’d put it out there that I sell lead gen to marketers in B2B tech. Other things as well for their pipeline, but 90% content syndication.

Other than the occasional VP Sales, I never hear from the sales teams I ‘cough’ support. Want to hear feedback, thoughts, what marketing is doing wrong, whatever.

I get terrible emails from people like you all day long and I hope you aren't one of them. Stop circling back to your original garbage message.

My first company, everyone would send out templated emails and would get responses back like ‘stop! You’re giving marketers a bad name!!!’ My current org for the past couple years, everything is personalized (supposed to be anyways). But yeah, we recycle the value props and CTAs way too often. It gets tough trying to come up with née messaging about a very unsexy product where marketers won’t respond for 20 touches in a row.

The easy part is getting a prospect to click on an email and download an asset.  The hard part is actually nurturing them to be passed to sales.  The worst thing I see happen so often is a team sends these first touch leads having just been introduced to your brand straight over to sales where they pick up the phone and say, ‘so I see you downloaded ... asset.’

Of course the prospect is gonna say whatever he needs to to get this SDR off his back a day after he downloaded something.  Leading with the need is counterintuitive to how everyone is scored and paid

I have been getting SO much cold outreach from random companies and people on this in 2021 - it's crazy.

Seems like everyone is doing it, and half are random people just out of school...

Not dumping on OP, but I'm curious about people's experience with these things. Has anyone seen success?

The content syndication space is becoming gloablized with the Indian companies that have been actually executing the programs are beginning to hire US reps to cut into the market and our profit margin.

the big lead gen companies have pretty experienced reps but there are a ton of small outfits that are terribad in their outreach.

Interesting, thanks for your perspective. I suppose that was bound to happen.

What surprises me more is the ridiculous cold outreach for this, as well as databases, that come to my company's sales@ email that are from Gmail/Outlook addresses that don't match the name in the signature.

Never sure if those are scams or just poorly executed attempts at lead gen...

Bro I get hit up 5 times a day by these Indian reps trying to sell us programs. Like, ‘Bro- I sell leads just like you. Prospect better and learn to write a grammatically correct email’

The grammar always kills me.

I got this connection request on LI a few months ago and just left it as it was quite something. From a nearby city, but buddy graduated university in 2020 and this was his messaging:

Hi [jefe],

I came across your profile and wanted to reach out seeing we're both high-level B2B professionals.

I guess we both value growth.

Love it!

Let's connect,
