I’ve scheduled a vaca with the fam for middle of Sept. in Disney so not sure if that counts as vacation…anyway, do you sales gangsters try to unplug when your OOO or do you still check in? I would like to check out, I think I need it. Just curious.

Literally throw your phone in a lake and let it sink to the bottom.

Buy a new one when you get back.

This literally made me laugh out loud. I think about doing that at least 4 times a day

I've taken a call at Magic Mountain. It's a huge challenge to find a quiet spot. If I could have avoided that meeting, I would have, but it was critical. And darned if I was going to wait around the hotel room just for one call!

That said, for the most part, I unplug while on vacation. You don't want to think about what quiet part of an amusement park/beach you want to be at for an upcoming scheduled call. It saps the fun out of the day and you don't get to really savor that time with the family.

If you MUST check in for your sanity, evening when you're at the hotel - just to make sure there are no "fires".

Delete Slack, teams, or whatever messaging you use. Turn off email notifications. If you have a company phone, let it die & don't charge it until you come back. It's hard earned PTO that I take fulllll advantage of.

I was reading through some of the posts today from Peloton employees who just got laid off & a constant theme in their posts was taking vacation days and actually separating yourself.

Go ghost mode for the time you have with your family. Trust me, your kids will thank you for it as they remember EVERYTHING.

Lol. Disney is never a vacation. Your gonna complain about needing a vacation after the vacation. And I hope your kids aren’t like still in strollers. Cause that’s a total waste.

Anyways…. I have my phone. It gets email. I’m in touch if needed or I need to
Do something. That’s about it.

Delete all of your work apps from your phone. Your kids will appreciate it and so will you. The business, no matter how big or small will survive without you. Enjoy yourself.

Try to keep it at a minimum. Make sure your team is in the know and can run with an opportunities you have in process if needed

I don't take any calls while on PTO, that said I usually will be checking my email/Slack periodically. Next time I take a lengthy PTO i'm going to delete those from my phone to fully unplug.

As someone who struggled to step away for the last few years, I wasted too much time on vacations that I can’t get back. I say totally unplug. It’s liberating and all that shiddd will still be there when you get back from your OOO.

Definitely like @Wellss’ comment about delete slack, teams, etc. The temptation for me to sit on outlook while on vacation is too strong lol. Delete it until you get back

Couple of days off? I'll often check in. Proper vacation? Unplug, especially with family.

It's all about timing in the year, what i have active, and how much someone can help me out. I NEVER bring my laptop and normally triage emails once a day for no more than 10min. If it's last month of the quarter then I'm much more active on email or if I have something big in late stage

Ugh god I’m in the same boat. Going to Europe in September. I want to unplug but I also don’t trust anyone to take care of my projects

Work to live, don't live for work. Turn off those notifications and turn on vacation mode and all your OOO emails!

I completely clock out, i do keep an eye on my emails cos im curious but I dont do anything about them.

I had a friend once who had a great philosophy, after vacation he would permanently delete every single email in his inbox and his reasoning was, anyone who really wanted to work with him would follow him up. Needless to say, he couldnt really hold down a job.

Anyone ruined getting a meeting by being too impatient after they suggest times but don't confirm straight away?

Do you work remotely or at the office? Would you quit your job if you had to go to the office full time? I’d quit immediately. Well as soon as I found another job 😂. Currently, I’m working from home I go to the office once in a while. I can work from any country. I went to the beach for 3 weeks and just took two days off to recover from a festival.
