If You Live In The United States And Believe In Crypto Call Your Senators

Been seeing this posted by various titans in the crypto industry and thought it was worth sharing here. The TL;DR is the U.S government put something in the must-pass infrastructure bill that would classify Bitcoin Miners/Nodes/anyone helping confirm and distribute digital assets as having a fiduciary responsibility to issue 1099 forms and make sure people pay taxes on their crypto gains. I can understand why exchanges like Coinbase, Gemini, Binance, and the likes should have a responsibility to issue 1099s and report capital gains to the government, but for the people mining cryptocurrencies, this is a ridiculous ask.

If you believe in crypto and want to help prevent the stifling of innovation I urge you to call your government officials and ask them to support the amendment to the cryptocurrency provision of the infrastructure bill (H.R. 3684).

P.S As much as I hate paying taxes I am all for legitimate rules and regulations that make crypto safer, more accessible, and easier to understand. That being said, the language in the bill at the moment is incredibly broad and it seems like it would stifle innovation and give the government way more surveillance than it should have. Let's be the change we want to see in this world.

I will continue to call until I can get someone on the phone (been leaving voicemails) and if you feel so inclined to help out the link below makes it very easy to do so.

Much love Savages,

Chep

Chep, I typically love your content, but this isn't a political forum. I know I'll get flamed for this by the crypto fans as there's been lots of talk about crypto in the Warm Room in the past, but once it crosses over to asking folks to get politically involved, I'm out.

Completely agree this is not a political forum and don't want to advocate for any political party. Just a huge believer in the idea of a global currency that puts every citizen in the world on equal financial playing fields without having to worry about your national currency being devalued. I guess it crosses the political threshold because I asked people who believed in crypto to call the senate but again I am not for any party only a belief that crypto can do some good in this world and I worry if this bill passes it will make it much harder for crypto to prosper.

Politics and the party system are not mutually exclusive. Either way, I understand your plight, but I don't think this is the place for this conversation.

Post this on Reddit, Chep. I donโ€™t own crypto, never will, donโ€™t give a poop about dudes trying to protect their speculative investments. Love you otherwise though. One love.

Hahahahaha profile picture checks out. All jokes aside, I have posted this on various social media, and while of course like anyone who owns crypto I would love to see the price action of Bitcoin skyrocket I hope to use it the same way we use fiat cash rather than sell my Bitcoin for a profit one day. Maybe it will never get to that point, but I really hope crypto/ DeFi can eliminate greedy third parties who charge ridiculous fees for remittances and other financial transactions. One Love indeed flintirongstagโค๏ธ

The problem with crypto is we live in a society that doesn't need it. We have strong central banking, less corruption than an overwhelming majority of countries and it's a dangerous investment tool. My 401K sees annually over 25% returns because I pick the correct allocations. I don't see the same home runs swings a coin can see but I mean shucks, 25% is great, all day every day.

Now, I am 100% all for options trading. I think that's fantastic, but crypto in the USA doesn't make sense to me. I've seen a lot of crypto advertising & investing in stable non-westernized countries though. Holding a speculative financial vehicle inย Azerbaijan for example could be the ticket to freedom, hopping classes domestically or simply creating a way to provide for yourself on a day to day basis without being an invisible slave. I think it makes sense in other parts of the world.

Thanks for being a good sport. ILU4EVER.

Absolutely. I truly believe the best way to understand something is to get perspective on it from people who have different beliefs. Polarization is so strong today on social media because people keep getting fed stuff they already agree with it. If all I read was how great crypto is I would never be able to understand and articulate how it might overcome some of the challenges that it will inevitably face. So thank you for expanding my perspective.ย

You make some great points and I completely agree third-world countries have much more to gain from crypto than people in the United States. I also have my 401k maxed out at my work and invest in stocks as well. Tried trading options a few time and felt fortunate to break even as options are definitely for the well prepared financial experts (which based on our conversation sounds like you are) Diversification is key with any investment and as much as I love crypto I don't think putting all my eggs in that basket is smart at all.

Big picture I'd love to be able to travel the world and use Bitcoin (or another crypto if one ends up beating out Bitcoin) but we are far away from that. Another thing that scares me about crypto is most people are only concerned with its price action and not the usefulness of the technology.

Ultimately, none of us knows exactly what will happen, but I do hope it leads to more freedom. Thank you for being a good sport as well<3ย

Give me a few hours to drink some Kahlua and I'll go berate my Senator in person. I'll scream "THIS IS FOR MY MAN CHEP" as I tackle them to the ground.

I don't have nearly the amount of money necessary to sufficiently grease the skids of Washington in this fashion.ย  Phone calls?ย  I don't think so.ย  Perhaps a healthy investment in a lobbying firm or political action committee gives me a vote but I'll just be getting in line behind some pretty heavy hitters.ย ย

You think wall street elected these two so that I'd have an actual vote?
