If you're WFH you need to find a way to keep active throughout the week.

I've been working remote since may of 2019. Remote but not from home. When I started working remote, I was living in a small fishing town outside of Puerto Vallarta called Boca de Tomatlan. Neat little town next to a river that lets into the ocean at the base of the mountains. Beautiful views but the interenet wasn't great so I had to commute to an office space in Puerto Vallarta.

I cursed it at the time but that commute turned out to be a blessing. I had to walk about a mile to the bus stop every morning with the last quarter of it being uphill. This because I lived on the other side of the river so we didn't bother getting a vehicle since it would mean parking it in the lot across the river from our house, I wasn't comfortable with that.

Anyways, quite the jaunt every day to get to work, with my computer in my bag. Once at the bus stop it was about 10 blocks walking to the office. I stayed in decent shape. Used to be a gym rat but when my daughter was born I started going less so as to spend more time with her, so this commute kept me from really gaining any weight.

Fast forward to now and I have to make time for the gym or I'm fucked. Due to a couple of consecutive weeks of full calendars between work and home life and a distain for waking up before 6am I have put on 10 pounds in 2 weeks! What the fuck?!?! I used to consider myself a fairly handsome man... I feel bad for my wife.

Anyways, that's all... don't make my mistake. If you have to, get your ass up early and burn some calories.

But srsly, this is a good reminder! Desk jobs are notorious for giving people big fat secretary asses.

Also, you can't out exercise a bad diet so people need to put some focus there, too. Doesn't matter if you work out for an hour every day if your diet revolves around take out, sugar, and only drinking water when you crack open a beer lol.

I had this exact conversation with my wife like 5 minutes ago. I was talking about how we are going to stop buying so much junk and she starts with, "well we need to go to the gym" I agreed but had to point out the fact that the gym won't do shit if we continue eating garbage.

Exercise is great for many reasons, but it's really not a way to lose weight. One Oreo cookie is 140 calories, it would take the average person doing average exercise 45-an hour to burn that off lol. If you wanna lose weight you need to cut out junk and count calories, full stop.ย

Right on point. Working out, for me, helps me to avoid junk. I have less of a desire to eat garbage after a workout. Besides, bigger muscles burn more calories passively.

Also higher altitude helps. Whenever I go back to Wyoming I lose about half a pound a day without changing any eating habits. Granted, I get back to sea level and gain it back even faster so...

I need exercise to regulate my mood and avoid paunch. But I also loathe waking up early and want to spend mornings with my kiddos. I've started going to the gym after kids go to bed and it's been a game changer. Gym isn't crowded and it helps me fall asleep quicker.

I would love to do this but the wife works from about 8 to 11 4 nights a week so I'm playing guard dad at home. While the kiddo sleeps

Hahaha my wife is a textbook helicopter mom. That means a text almost every chance she gets to ask how the kiddo is doing. One time I replied with, "She's good, having fun in the bath so I took a quick trip to the 7/11"

Her propensity to worry took over and immediately believed me and started to freak out.

I did a ton of walking with the kiddos in the stroller and in front/backpacks.ย  ย Kid's entertained and/or asleep, and I got out and about.

ProTip:ย  select your hiking backpack carefully, unlike I did.ย  ย When my boy, who has a bowling ball for a head, fell asleep, all that weight went right down onto my neck and I ended up trying to hike along like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.ย  It was uncomfortable, to say the least.

My next pearl of wisdom, if you have a boy in the mix:ย  when you go to buy the "big boy bed" after the crib stage, remember that at some point, you are going to have a teenager the size of a full grown man living in your home, and purchase accordingly.ย  ย  Twin XL if the male parent is 6' +.ย  ย Another lesson I have learned the hard way, dealing with my little boy who is 6'2" and still growing.

Great reminder!ย  ย I have a trail close to my home that, combined with my walk to the trailhead, is almost 4 miles and takes about 75 minutes to complete if I don't get distracted on the trail (wildlife, usually, sometimes somebody's doggo).ย  ย

I had an issue last year and into this one,ย  which is when I was having to drive my kid back and forth to school, I was eating too much into my available open time, and couldn't make the additional personal walk time work.ย  Kiddo drives himself now, so I have that time back.ย  ย However, I'm still very busy, but damn it, I need to make this part of my daily routine again.
