Im finally a buyer and this is what i get?

Im in the market for a van and made the mistake of clicking something online that trigged 604,958,323 sales guys and gals to call and email me.

this was my mistake of course.

I ignore most and responded to a few.

when i respond I tell them EXACTLY what i am looking for.

Of course many ask me to come to the dealership which i totally get and I decline and tell them to text me if they have what i want.

I was SHOCKED by the number of reps that literally said "oh yeah we have exactly that, ill shoot you a text with the link"

then i get a text of cars i am 100% not looking for.

I have to assume this is what many buyers experience when trying to buy anything and its a bummer. still waiting for that one person to actually do their job and i bet they will win my business.

this is not a knock on care salesmen but really sales folks that cant do basic shit right.

ok thanks for coming to my RantTalk

what is the best way to buy a car BTW????

Carvana??

I walked into a dealership a few weeks ago and was dumbfounded by the absolute lack of salesmanship that was shown to me by everyone on the floor.

It is frustrating that so many B2C reps are so bad and these are the kinds of people giving our profession a bad name.

for sure. I try not to blame the rep TOO much, i am sure there is a lack of solid leadership to get these people to a level that is acceptable.

but still.....the bar is pretty fucking low sometimes and it cant be met.

What bothers me the most is the absolute lack of care to find out what I want or need, just push the product.

It goes against everything I try to do as a salesperson and does nothing for our reputation or for their success rate.

i 100% get that. like if you just listen to what I want, your job will be much easier haha

Buying a car in any medium is terrible right now, it's a seller's market. Your best bet is to build a new model if you have specific needs/wants but chances are the chip shortage and waitlists will have you carless until 2023 at the earliest. Happy hunting, I just had to buy a car about 2 weeks before my wedding and when I tell you my money and options were low, LOL, do I mean it. Ended up getting a used car my mechanic approved and promised would keep alive for 5 years until the market and my savings got back to ideal conditions.

Also, my 2 cents, stay away from leases - why does everyone keep putting all this money into non assets?

Custom order custom order custom order. I just outlined my experience with it and its absolutely the way to go right now. You get exactly what you want, and often will pay less for it. Only issue is that it takes a while, but if you dont need it ASAP its the way to go.

My fiance bought a car from shift and it was a super easy experience. They drove 2 hours in the snow to bring the car to her to test drive/see it first, then did the entire transaction in our living room. Was super easy.

They price their cars competitively but their service fee is a bit high IMO and negates the amount you save on the car.

I personally ordered a new truck back in december and it was delivered to the dealer back in April. Different experience but still one that I thought was very smooth. I spent a decent amount of time build a relationship with the salesman and it paid off. He txted me updates as my order/build progressed and gave me a really solid deal on the truck (11% off MSRP) - considering the truck market I "made" about $15k on the truck when I drove it off the lot.

I have also bought a new boat a year ago and went through a lot of the same frustrations you did. Similar to ordering my truck - I got the best service from salesmen I built some trust and relationship first. I know its crazy that you have to do that as a buyer but it really paid off for me in both instances. The less transactional you make it for the salesmen the more they seemed to go out of their way to get me what I wanted.

DM me if you want to talk more about it.

LOL! Was there myself last year - it's insane how those sites sell your info to dealerships all over the US, not just locally. Honestly, I only dealt with the inside sales folk online and some adorable little 20 year old offered me some insane deal (I already knew exactly what I wanted and what I would pay). Ended up getting that deal even though the guys at the dealership I finally met with were PISSED.

Carvana, Vroom, or CarMax. I have 2 friends who have successfully purchased from Carvana. Both said it was an easy process. My car is 14 years old and I am dreading the process, so I get it.

i love the idea of Carvanna, but i have a hard time buying a car that i have not actually sat in you know? Also ive heard a few stories about how Carvanna doesnt really review the cars well and ppl have had to do major repairs within a short period of time of buying the car.

Careful. Carvana is under litigation regarding titles. Google it. Very few people are getting the titles for vehicles.

Buying a car is a miserable experience. I have bought 2 this year. Basically you need to do all the research yourself, know exactly what you want, find it, and then chase it down.

Be cautious on Carvana, have read a few stories on them having some major flaws and their stock has tanked because of it over the past 6 months.

Some of the flaws I heard was issues with cars saying they were sound mechanically but then when the person got the car it was not able to pass an inspection due to major mechanical issues. Also in some states Carvana couldn't get the title to the end user and so people were left with cars they couldn't register.

I really like the idea of Carvana, Vroom, etc. but do some digging first on those platforms.

Youโ€™re giving me flashbacks. When I bought my most recent SUV the sales-gal kept trying to push me into a minivan bc I have three kids. I told her twice, politely, that I knew what I wanted and what I was there to see. On the third time I told her (not so politely) I would be leaving if she brought it up again. Why is it so hard to listen to your buyers wants/needs?! ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Bought my 2nd new car 11 years after buying my first new car from the same dealer. What made it an excellent experience is that she took the time to listen to me, helped me build exactly what I needed, and told me that something I thought I wanted (some kind of add on door protector) wasn't worth it, and showed me the better (and actually less expensive) option. She had the car shipped from another dealer, which only took a couple of days, and I was out the door.

They send me emails from time to time, and I happened to click through on one advertising used cars, and stumbled upon the car we bought for my son. That experience was also as painless as it comes. Again, they listened, worked with us, and I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I know dealers get a bad rap, but not all are awful - and clearly my local dealer trains well and has high standards.

Not surprised though

Not just car. Just any product / service these days - Itโ€™s the same.
I accidentally clicked on some dental clinic ad.
Those folks called me at least 3 times a day for 7 days straight. Iโ€™d been caught up whenever they called. So they texted back to back 3 texts a day.

When I finally picked up and told them it was an accidental click. They started probing on how I brush. Cold call. Inbound lead.
So yeah.

I bought off Carvana and was overall happy with the experience. You do pay a little more but itโ€™s worth it in my opinion. I can also send you a referral code where youโ€™ll get a $500 discount for it and I get $100

Maybe I'm just too nice of a person but this is the second time I've fallen for a "business connection" that turns out being someone trying to hard sell shitty insurance and shit to me...
