Indian selling from India to the US for the last 6 years

I've always gotten questions like

"which part of US are you calling from?"

"Are you in INDIA?"

And some deals go south because "we want to do business with businesses inside of our country".

Now I see how this might be coming from a genuine place, but what's extremely ironic is the fact that Indians love to shop anything from the West (including yoga, lol)

I don't see so much of this in SaaS now. But how many of y'all subscribe to this?

Just tell em you're from the US? Used to do it from the UK (and used the lockdown situation to spin it lol)- the time difference was horrible. Cant imagine its any better in your situation

Username checks out, ha!

These days I just say I'm based out of India. But would love to catch up when the world lets us travel like before and get a giggle out of it. Most people even try to be friendly and talk about their visits to India or friends from India to connect, which is absolutely fricking sweet :)

To be honest Iโ€™ve sold into the US for years. Iโ€™ve lived in Canada for most of it. While I recognize itโ€™s a different situation in a way, I do also get this question.

At the end of day, it donโ€™t think it matters if youโ€™re able to break down the initial barrier and build trust with the prospect.

Exactly this. They just need to know they aren't being scammed unfortunately.ย

It happens I sell from Egypt if you have good english no one can notice it. I don't have an americaย  accent but I don't have an arabic accent either so i never got this response.ย

I've seen this even when I was selling into the German market from Spain... that was tough, and often deals went south when they found out. BTW I speak German fluently (no accent) but if they researched the company and saw no German presence, the deal was in jeopardy.ย

Unfortunately, you are going to bump into the small percentage of the population of the US who are terrible humans.ย  For the most part though, if you bring value to your calls, and are passionate about what you do - know one really cares where you are based.ย

While bad grammar does bother me, I can get over it. But, the fundamental to me is that it screams the personal lacks attention to detail or hasn't bothered re-reading what they've written. With complicated products, sales cycles and other moving parts, if they can't string a sentence together properly it's a red flag.

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, but if it continued I'd be quite turned off.
