Influencers are taking over sales. Change my mind.

When did sales become who can be the biggest influencer? Some of these people barely even have experience doing the job they try and influence people how to do. There's no way someone who has been an SDR for a year is now the most knowledgeable person in the world on how to book meetings. Is there even that much to know? Same goes for new Sales Leaders or AE's. This isn't rocket science... its sales. Yeah there are different techniques to use and strategies to follow but everyone seems to be experts now a days and when you actually listen to what they have to say it's all BS. I never learn a damn thing from these people.

Here's a reality check. Why don't these influencers actually do the job they are preaching to everyone "how to do better" especially when they have no more than 1-2 years experience ever doing said job...

That's one of the reasons I like my industry, no influencer will convince the boomer buyer I deal with. They want a call and a relationship, not some fake inspirational post on LI.ย

I completely agree. I'm glad my industry isn't sexy and trendy.

They arenโ€™t selling so they have to make themselves feel good by having a base of followers โ€œthose who canโ€™t do manageโ€ and those who canโ€™t do either become a LinkedIn influencer give me a break. If youโ€™re great you donโ€™t have time to be on LinkedIn posting bs and trying to get clout. Rant overย

They are forced into it by their companies. Go look at their employers and I bet you they are working for one of 3-4 different spots.

Some of it is put out automatically from their companies or a vendor they hired to crank out content for their people.ย

Other than that there are a number who have found that they can build a following and monetize that different ways by creating content and sharing it like that. Often it's bullshit, but it works well enough to be viable. Just like influencers on other social media platforms.

Maybe a controversial opinion but I think that most people who go on to be sales or marketing influencers and or consultants just dont know how to sell very well.ย  They had to take up the influencer or consulting role because they couldnt make enough money doing the real job

High Charisma score but low Wisdom score on their character sheet. Essentially, a Bard.

They have to go use that charisma to get 'followers' because it won't get them deals :)

Perhaps for B2C or SMB sales. But I can say confidently that Enterprise accounts DGAF about influencers. They care about the B2B relationship and positive ROI.

In fact, being some big personality online is probably a detractor, as it's clear you're more about your personal brand image than helping the customer.
