International Pricing and Exchange Rates

Howdy,


I sell data domestically(US)/ internationally(Canada mostly) and I have been getting killed on the exchange rate. Prospective clients see it as a 35% increase. USD to Canadian Dollar is 1.00 to 1.36


Have you had this issue and how have you dealt with it?

Has the conversion from USD to another currency impacted your deals?

I've found my Canadians in general to be very price-sensitive. That said, we do price in USD, but will work with other exchanges if that's best for the customer. We don't reduce the cost, however. If it's 100K USD, we're not going to offer it for $100K CAD.

TBH I'm benefiting since I sell from CAD to USD so my commission has gone up thanks to the exchange.

Materials are rising too, but we account for that when we cost projects.

It goes both ways, most businesses here that work in USD are used to it and should be hedging if they buy often.

Yeah, I mean the exchange rate is constantly fluctuating, but it's not as though it's a surprise. Since it's both "dollars" we just have to be careful to make sure we are stating USD or CAD each time.

Fortunately my company has the exchange rate considered while dealing with international clients, so the pricing is that way. I don't lose out on the currency change.

Curious - is your pricing just USD? If so, you should defo talk to your management about this. :/

It is only in USD and the per unit economics get killed when adding the exchange.
