Interview question - what is my biggest weakness?

Recently I started exploring my options, but I got struck with the what is my biggest sales weakness question... I responded with the I do too much myself before I ask for help from management/engineering and the problem may be resolved quicker if I share my problems, which is me just being focused on fixing the problem to my standard. Curious to understand what are good replies here that will turn your weakness into a positive...

Personally I think itโ€™s tailored to the role. Adapt as the position dictates. If they want a Hunter you canโ€™t say โ€œmy biggest weakness is hunting too much.โ€ That sounds insane. Adapt to the role.ย

Ya I agree. I feel like itโ€™s too easy to waffle giving a general explanation like a I did. Whereas cut too the point which can be spun as a positive if they ask another question on it can be a better option. Cheers!

They would like to find out what are you doing to improve it and your progress to date. You should be able to demonstrate accountability and taking ownership of your actions to improve your weakness.

I ask this question when Iโ€™m doing interviews.ย

HOWEVER... Iโ€™m not looking for the potential new hire to turn a weakness into a positive. I ask this question to see if they will give me a legit answer and not tell me something like โ€œI work too hardโ€ or โ€œI care too muchโ€. These are BS answers. Tell me something real. And it doesnโ€™t need to be turned into a positive. This helps me judge how honest someone will be with me and themselves.ย

Yea to be honest I always tried to avoid this question if at all possible. It's so hard for someone in an interview to talk about something they suck at when the entire time to that point they've been hyping themselves up. 90% of the time it's one of the responses you said. Unless you frame it right and are clear about what you are looking for it's just not worthwhile IMO

To be fair, I only ask this question after I've asked them multiple questions about their strengths, what they are great at, what co-workers and previous employees would say about them, etc. So they have plenty of time to hype themselves up.ย

And you are right, 90% of the time it is one of the BS answers. But someone really stands out to me if they don't give me one of those BS answers so I am really looking for that 10% that are willing to talk about weaknesses openly & honestly.

Make it something personal that you can turn into a positive. You're truthful yet showing you're coachable.ย

Role study and preparedness should define it more ; I say that too much multitasking - due to which I didnt go deep with accounts ; improved and helped sales, too!

The benefit I see most out of this question is showing that you have worked on the weakness in the past. How did you try to improve? Did you ask for coaching? things like that. Otherwise I'm just not a fan of this question in general.
