Interviewing

I’ve been interviewing and recently, with two different companies both hiring managers have asked me the names of the other companies I’m interviewing at and why. Would you disclose that information? How would you respond to that question? It’s been really awkward and at the end of the interview. Both times they’ve moved me to the next round but I’m wondering how the War Room would handle this?

The answer is always yes I’m talking to multiple companies/have offers on the table! Be confident. Be coy, it’s none of their business and use it as leverage - everyone wants you 😉

Definitely. They tried to get specific with the company names. Would you give up the deets?

No names, maybe recognize same industry if it would give you negotiating power. Remember that they’re thinking about how difficult it can be to draw talent away from a current company - if you’re w/o a job at the time, it’s a tougher convo. Good luck and LMK how it goes!

That's not really an appropriate question for them to ask but since they're asking just say they're in the same industry but prefer not to disclose

It's probably no big deal if they ask, I'd just tell them you've been talking to a lot of companies. Sometimes they ask because they know how much the other companies pay and can adjust their offer accordingly

Do not disclose. It's not their business and only helps them, not you. The only thing they need to know is that you are actively interviewing with other companies and/or have job offers from them.

Disclose only if it gives you more leverage!

Wow I've never had someone be so bold as to ask the company names. Tsk tsk.

I would smile, and give them the industry,  and ask them a question about their company or about next steps.

Honesty is the best policy in most cases and having multiple offers makes you look wanted. That being said, I hope the hiring managers don't try and pull some shit.

Wouldn't provide company names, that's none of their business. I'd disclose the industry and move the conversation on from that topic.

Treat it like you're dating someone. I don't care about all of that, I'm talking with you right now.
