Interviewing and follow-up

Okay so being out of work and waiting on unemployment to kick in is driving me crazy. I've had multiple initial interviews and another one later today. It seems that employers are taking their sweet ass time to move the interview process along. I've sent follow-up emails to the recruiters/HR people I had the initial interview with and in some cases it's been radio silence.

Anyone have advice on how often to follow-up and for how long after the initial interviews, etc.?

It's been awhile since I've been in this position so need some solid advice.

Agreed with @Kosta_Konfucius- make sure there's an expectation set in terms of when you'll hear back, and if you don't by that date then you have a very valid reason to follow up and poke them a little.

I'm also a fan of a quick thank you follow up via email or LI after a meeting. I've usually sent those, and like it when I receive one.

Set next steps after every interview, know when you should hear back and when the interview will be if you move forward.

Have to treat interviews like a deal cycle

I agree with everyone here. Follow up is key in almost everything while setting proper expectations and next steps. Also, good call @CuriousFoxon the Holiday weekend awareness.

I'd ask about next steps/timeline before you hop off the call - like a sales cycle. Follow up immediately after the meeting to thank the interviewer(s) for the call.

Good luck to you!

Every 2-4 days. Bring value to your followup. "I was reading this article about the industry and blah blah blah." Sell it.

IMO -
You should send a thank you note within 24hrs if possible.
And you should never end an interview without discussing next steps and a timeline. If that doesn't happen, then 1 week is a very acceptable timeline to decide on next steps - go/no-go with your candidacy.

Good luck getting a new gig!

Thanks. Just had an interview with a recruiter and they were asking all sorts of specifics on my numbers from previous jobs. I usually have that ready for an interview with a hiring manager not the recruiter/HR person. I've had about 3 interviews this past week and not one asked for the specifics. Is this something new?

If they didn't give you a timeframe, or you forgot to ask, follow up 3-5 business days later, then weekly until you get some sort of response. Keep in mind they could be interviewing TONS of people over the phone, and having a whole bunch of in-person interviews and just be so busy that they aren't getting back to you. Stay on them until you get a "yes" or "no".

If they don't like the persistence, then maybe they aren't great sales managers either?

how long has it been from your last interview?

this is what ive done:
1. at the end of the interview ask the interviewer what the next step is, and when they would like to complete that.
2. confirm with the recruiter that those timelines match up.
3. wait 2-3 business days and if you hear nothing follow up with the recruiter.
4. if nothing after 1 more business day, reach out to the person you interviewed with if at all possible.
5. if still nothing. just start blowing up the recruiter

I did exactly this and still radio silence. I went through 4 interviews with this company and was told they wanted to schedule a mock demo. I'm at a loss..
