Intriguing Interview Question

Had an interview with a VP of People the other day, and we get to chatting about the usual stuff that you cover during an interview when speaking to an HR demon...I mean person...and they popped one I have never heard before:

"How would your current team react if you told them you are leaving"

To be honest, it had me shook. I have asked lots of curveballs in my day to candidates, and have been asked my fair share as well, but this is entirely unique for me, and took me a minute to contemplate the answer.

Have you ever been asked something along those lines, and if so, how did you answer? Or, what is the strangest question you've been asked during the interview process?

The only one that flies in that same circle is "if I reached out to X person, what would they say is your biggest strength/weakness" but not really the same.

My favorite question comes from another manager I used to interview with and he would end every interview asking "summarize your sales style in a song title" He was always looking for reasoning and not the actual song but was fun to watch the reaction to that one.

You just straight up created your own, I like it. Half the people do that, the other half try and match it to something like "Bitch better have my money"

Oh. When I was interviewing, I did full disclosure - which meant that my main boss that I worked with recently resigned and encouraged them to call her to confirm my awesome. And that the current management underestimates me so probably won’t care.

Idk, I was asked this once for one of my horse jobs and I said she would find a replacement but it was a bad time because it was in the middle of the Olympic trials so I didn’t want to give her any potential distractions. Told them
I wouldn’t leave until that was over. Everyone knew she is a colossal bitch and most people wouldn’t give a fuck. I’m not that person 🤷‍♀️

My current team will miss me but they will be happy I'm taking the next step / getting promoted.  They understand that ultimately I have to do what is best for me.  They might not like it but they will understand.

I get this question quite often actually.
And my answer is always some bullshit about how it would be sad for both me and the team to part ways as we are basically family by now, but as families do, they would be supportive of the change and this doesn't mean I won't see them outside of work. Good God I fucking hate interviews.

I’ve had that before. I believe I responded that they would feel totally fucked if I left, which I actually confirmed was true.
However, in another place that wasn’t into change or accountability it was ding dong the witch is dead.
End of line.

Interesting question, don’t know 100% what interviewer was trying to get at with it though??

After having gone through it, I know she was trying to understand if I saw myself as a crucial asset.
