Introvert or extrovert?

With the Bravado VIP Party coming up, I've been imagining going. And the thought fills me with dread. A bunch of strangers dressed up all fancy, and dancing? I'm feeling sick to my stomach right now.

Okay, maybe that's social anxiety, but I'm also a big introvert who would prefer to stay at home and do crafts. Sales is supposedly the perfect job for extroverts, so I'm curious: are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I am technically an introvert, although I think I fit the โ€œextroverted introvertโ€ category more. I used to have terrible social anxiety when I was younger but now I actually really enjoy networking and meeting people.ย

But, I would say I have less of a โ€œsocial batteryโ€ than others I know, meaning after a certain amount of time I do need a day or two of just me time to recharge.ย

I am an extroverted introvert in that I'd rather attend a networking event with a colleague as opposed to riding solo. If you want to get me to a friendly social event, it's going to take a lot of convincing--but once I'm out, I'm going to have a good time. Simply a matter of momentum for me, because I am equally happy at home.

Introverted extrovert. I keep things to myself, meaning I'm selective with details. I love being out and amongst people, but I also enjoy my time alone. Sometimes you just don't wanna be fucked with, ya know?ย

I feel this. I think it might have to do with being an only child...

I'm consistently typed as an extrovert and fit the profile. I'm at ease talking to people about anything and everything, am a good public speaker, enjoy meeting new people, am not afraid of attention etc...

That said, most of my hobbies are solitary ones (reading, hiking, cooking,) and I'm happy hanging out by myself for days. I think I'm just picky about who I hang out with - if I like you and we vibe I'm happy to spend all day with you, but if you're lame I'd rather be sitting by myself looking out the window than endure a boring or awkward interaction.ย

As an extrovert, all of us are annoying to introverts at some point or another.

Iโ€™ve known super successful introverts in sales and theyโ€™re so good because they block out the noise and just do their job which I envy. Also itโ€™s weird how many narcissistic people are successful in salesย

I'm an extroverted extrovert that tends to be a little introvertedly extrovert when I'm not extrovertedly introverted.ย

An introvert in an outgoing role.ย  Sounds counterproductive.ย  How do you succeed in your current role?

Fortunately I work from home. I think working face-to-face would be a lot more draining.

For me, I don't really consider sales to be an 'outgoing' role. I'm curious by nature and so I like to ask a lot of questions and let the other person do most of the talking.ย

Also, what really helps me is to have a script that I can look at in case I'm feeling lost. When I was younger, I avoided lots of conversations because I didn't know what to say.

I see that. ย I was going to suggest asking a lot of questions. ย Even if people ask you something you can formulate a quick "yeah, how about you?" and turn it around.
