Irony from a prospect

I'm working on a deal that I think just died, but my prospect posted something on Linkedin that was absurdly ironic or may paint this person as a sociopath.

I sent out a very big proposal (I'd hit my q4 target on it) at the end of last week and they said they would discuss internally and give me an answer following a Canadian Thanksgiving.

My email is a week old and unopened. My follow ups haven't been opened or responded to. I'm 99% sure they used us to get a better quote from someone else. But what's really driving me crazy is that the prospect is now posting on Linkedin about how stress in the workplace is a global mental wellness issue.

Maybe I'm being a narcissist, but it feels like he's giving me a big ironic middle finger.

My personal favourite are the prospects who work in orgs that are supposed to be helping and supporting people like charities or with the elderly/kids who are some of the biggest raging bitches and assholes you've ever met in your life.

I have a theory that Chic-fil-a workers are all absolute monsters off the clock because they utilize all of their niceness/politeness while at work

I wonder if they stop saying โ€œMy Pleasure!โ€ as a response when they clock out. Or if when they do say it they are like, โ€œDammitโ€ฆIโ€™m off, I donโ€™t have to say that stupid shit!โ€

Nah, not really. They are treated very poorly. Donโ€™t mistake presentation for reality.

No. There's a competitor in our industry who has very a aggressive sales approachย and they consistently mentioned throughout our process how much that turned them off, so I've been very light on follow ups. The red flag on my end isn't necessarily the response, but they fact that my messages haven't been touched and up until this point they been very responsive with me.ย

Reply to the post agreeing and talking about the stress and mental wellness issues you face when someone doesn't respond to emails or phone calls #passiveagressiveย

I once had a prospect who posted that he always responds to SDRs as he knows the struggle of working in Sales. Ironically, he never responded to my highly personalised mails hahah :D LinkedIn is such a pile of shit, it's so beyond me how people actually enjoy the platform at this point.

same here. I had some prospects that were "sales guru's" on LI. There were all into video prospecting and all of my videos went unopened/watched

Does your product solve workload/stress in their company ?
If you already lost the deal or they are definitely ghosting you I would react on his post. โ€œIf you would react to my emails I could help you increase the mental wellness of your employeesโ€

I likely lost it, but am hoping I'm wrong. No my product does not help with that. Them ignoring me is bad for my mental health

Haha, in my opinion it is sometimes in your own interest to get them on the phone and get closure. Especially with your own mental head at risk haha. Donโ€™t want to you start breaking your desk over a lost deal haha.

I'm trying. I don't want to hound them. They mentioned that they disliked a competitor of ours who's sales processes are known to be very aggressive because of little things like that.ย

It's little things like that that are making me feel like I'm dealing with a Machiavellian supervillian

Are you dealing with a professional buyer?
Because it looks like you lost control, I would probably give him a call on Monday morning and talk over things. Donโ€™t have a follow up at that moment. But let him know that you are wondering if there are unanswered question and schedule a follow up during that call. Donโ€™t rush them. But set an appointment so you will have control again.

They're coming off a holiday weekend and into a short week.ย

The next step was an internal conversation on their end that would have necessitated them opening an email I sent over. It should have happened Wed or Thurs and I said I'd follow up today if I hadn't heard back.ย

It's not a procurement person, but they clearly weren't green.ย

Are you dealing with only one guy in the org? Did you try to get on a convo with anyone else as well? May be he is stressed out, ready to get out and applying for a job himself ๐Ÿคฃ

I was working with 2 and both have gone dark. The timing on the post was just too on the nose with how this is playing out that I couldn't help but laugh

Understood. Had been in your shoe where I tried all the possible options but in vain and left things as i could not do much. However, experienced one prospect came out of dark the same way they had gone and became a customer. If they truly need it, they would come back.

Don't forget to keep following up and asking if there is something you should know so you don't overwhelm his email etc etc.

Yeah, that's the plan next week. Expecting to roll into the weekend hitting my quarterly target and then getting ghosted is the type of stress related mood swing that he mentioned in his linkedin post which is why I thought it was ironic

How do you prospect?

When a lead answers the phone for the first time in history only to scream at me to stop calling my first reaction is to laugh really loud. I don't even think about it.
